Hi Mr Fox, just been reading through the thread and wanted to send you my support. I was just wondering if you could get a part-time job to supplement your income - it might appease your OH as well, although I guess she is feeling very vulnerable right now and just like you is extremely worried. Have you had a chance to have another chat?0

HI BW
Just on the overdraft issue - have you investigated opening an Alliance & Leicester current account? They give overdrafts at 0% for a year, and 5.9% thereafter, and promise to match your existing overdraft limit. there are also cash incentives for signing up via Quidco or a referrer.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
are you workign for the government now? Only TBH youll never get a perm job with gov as they can only take on temps not perms.
I know thigs, as OH found himself in the exact same situation having temped in central gov for over 18months. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Nice to know that you are back and making us smile!
I don't know about your OH, but I find it easier to understand things if they are writen down - i.e how much is owed to where, how much you are spending on day to day things etc. Perhaps your OH would understand it better if it was writen down for her to see? That way she could see that the child care costs were taken care of etc.
To me, it would make sense to take the maternity cover job and do such a good job at it that they don't want you to go - there may be other opportunities within that company at a later date, (and having a good reference from them won't hurt).
Hope you get things sorted out soon.........Sealed Pot Challenge Member Number #19060 -
I've addressed a lot of the issues in previous posts. I did post an SOA about three weeks ago when I had a secondary lightbulb moment and started dabbling in the forum. I'll see if I can drag it up.Hi there
I really sympathise with both of you. Your OH must feel that everything is slipping, worrying about older child's school, hormones all over the place etc. So I would suggest the following
1) Take the job
2) Do a budget with you increased wages. Include in the budget the extra money you need to get naturalised. And a pot to pay off debts. In this way hopefully your other half will see that you are being proactive
3) Update your cv. There are sites on the web that give you ideas about this
4) In some industries not being a GB citezen is a disadvantage eg defence, some computing jobs etc, but if you are doing PA work then this shouldn't be an issue.
5) Ask her to help you with the cv.
6) Point out to her the clever way you have sorted the childcare so that you don't overpay on this.
Are your debts also making her stressed out? If so then if you haven't posted a statement of affairs on here before (see southernscousers sticky at the top of the forum), then maybe we can help you trim your budget.
And don't forget you love her. Maybe when she sees that you are planning what will happen in the next 8 months it will calm her down.
Best of luck to both of you
chev
I have no doubt that my previous attitude toward my debts is driving her crazy. I've been paralysed by the debt instead of doing something positive about it - one of her golden rules is 'any progress is better than none' when it comes to travelling, maybe there's a correlation in her thoughts about finance? - but I've found so many good tools on this site, and in Martin's book, that I've started the ball rolling. I feel good that I've got resources and can conceivably get out of my own little 'debtor's prison'.
But like I wrote before, as yet there's no tangible evidence that I am changing direction.US student loan (2.48%): [STRIKE]$19,152.65[/STRIKE] $2700.19

If you PM me you email address, I could take a look at your CV. I have done it for a couple of DFW's, as I do them professionally but don't charge DFW's, and they have been pleased with the results. You're welcome to leave off your name/ address etc if you so wish. My CV's do open doors. Just a thought.0

I looked at the A&L account and I think to qualify you need to be in credit for at least a day in the past month? I hadn't heard about the Quidco angle - tho' I did hear about the £30 referral.
I would switch (or 'transfer', to be less harsh) but I've just put through a credit card application, so would need a month or two for the credit scoring to settle.US student loan (2.48%): [STRIKE]$19,152.65[/STRIKE] $2700.19

I did have a call centre job for a while after the birth of our daughter, when I was making substantially less in my primary job. But the hours would clash with childcare.Hi Mr Fox, just been reading through the thread and wanted to send you my support. If there was an evening and weekend job that didn't commit too much time I might consider it - even down the Asda.
We haven't had a chance to chat - need time to let it settle. In a day or two, I can write something down.US student loan (2.48%): [STRIKE]$19,152.65[/STRIKE] $2700.19
