ALDI, the hidden cost of cheap products

I have always prefered buying from British owned stores but feel unsupported on this. I bought, on Tuesday 26th March, a Hobby Case, storage case from Aldi in Sheffield at a cost of £3.99, as part of a £20 spend. I opened the case on Thursday 28th March, to start using it, should have known better, cheap brittle plastic, it was badly designed and broken. Tried to take it back today 29th March for an exchange, have you got the receipt, no but I can't have bought it from somewhere else can I ?, no receipt, no exchange or refund end of story, now go away. I checked on their website, their refund policy is no receipt, no refund, totally against the Trading Standards Act.
So, mega annoyed, I ring them on 0844 406 8800, 20 minutes on hold at 5p per minute, they confirm, nothing they can do, they are their rules, go away you tedious man..... and thanks for the extra £1 for making the call (only joking, they did not say thanks)
So I have an unusable case, went off and spent £20 at Morrisons, how long before Aldi are forced to change their rules, they are breaking the law.
Anybody else had this problem, receipt needed.???

No, they are not breaking the law. You need proof of purchase to assert your legal rights against a retailer.0

Proof of purchase is required. Did you have a bank statement?
What trading standards act?You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
I'm lost too -They'd have happily refunded you with the receipt. Without the receipt you could have obtained it elsewhere (it's not Aldi branded) or even shop lifted it. Hardly their fault you lost the receipt.
Why not try the same thing in Morrissons without a receipt......Odds are you'll get an identical response.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

You know the one - it's in the same section as the European law that gives everything a two year guarantee0 -

So what proof have you got that you didn't steal the product from the store, then tried to take it back for a refund?
There's no issue here, Aldi have the right to see some proof of purchase before giving you an exchange or your money back. You could have fished it out of the skip around the back for all they know.
This thread should be renamed 'the hidden cost of stupidity' as you should really look up your rights before bleating on the Internet.0 -

Or another Aldi0 -
What has this to do with (exclusively) Aldi or the cheapness of a product? And in what way is it a hidden cost?0

For 3.99 what did you exect ? and how is it badly designed and broken ?
Why is it against the Trading standards act? As been said a bank statement would do, its not the stores fault you dont have the receipt.
How are they breaking the law ? If they were breaking the law the company would have had the book thrown at them years ago.
1 final question, what has spending £20 at morrisons got to do with what happened ?
Did you buy a hobby case from there ?0 -
