You guys inspired me over the weekend to get stuck into my spring cleaning. OH was away so I had no one whinging how boring cleaning was so I just went for it.
I've washed the windows inside
scrubbed skirting boards and wiped the walls
Spent 3 hours cleaning the kitchen including the oven, all cupboards washed down and wiped out and everything taken off the surfaces and cleaned
Had the sofas out and hoovered and washed down the floor underneath
A good hour or so gardening
Bathroom and toilet full spring cleaned including everything off the shelves and bleach on a toothbrush in the grouting
Nets down and washed
Loose cushion covers washed
All bedding washed and ironed
I don't mid telling you I'm glad to be back at work today, am shattered and achey but I'm so grateful to you all for such inspiration so thank you!0 -
I'm trying to talk myself into spring cleaning the dogs. Its a job i hate
but they really do need a bath.
I always end up with a soaking wet
bathroom and backache.
Maybe if i do one dog today and the other tomorrow
it wont be such a chore.

Just been looking at my dog and thinking exactly the same thing!
He's supposed to be white but is currently a "winter cream" sort of shade with grey feet - its only 3 weeks since his last bath but we go to the park or near the river every day and he's a roller
Think I'll do him on the weekend before I go back to work.
Well, skirtings and window sill painted and it looks much better now with very pale green walls and bright white woodwork. All nice and clean. Have taken up the carpet and need to get it to the tip somehow (only have a little car) so we're all set for the new carpet on ThursdayWill wait for the paint to dry and then the new curtains and lightshade can go up - one less job to do.

I'd do the other dog but she needs a crane to lift her out of the bath wet. She needs to go on a diet. Well they both do really and i share their painThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Well done everyone, you are all doing so brilliantly! After a few days off I got around to doing the living/dining rom yesterday. Had to order a new part for the vacuum today as a bit broke off! I was going to buy a new vacuum but decided as we are saving for a house deposit I realy shouldn't.
Who feels better after cleaning? It actually makes me happier to get up in the morning! I have even strated Flylady again now as it seems much more managable.

I've decided I'm going to spring clean this weekend, this is what I'm planning to do. We only have a flat with 4 rooms so hopefully I will be able to get it all done. Can anyone think of anything I've forgotten about?
Wash bathmat and hallway rug.
Bathroom - clean it, including shower screen, do the floor, clean off all the mould that's grown over winter.
Kitchen - clean oven, do inside microwave if time (as was done recently anyway) clean out fridge, general kitchen wiping, do sink & floor. Clean out horrible disgusting food waste bin that I hate. I'm not doing inside the cupboards as these were done recently when we had new doors put on, and I don't think I'll do the tops of the cupboards as I can't reach them without being in peril.
Do all windows and mirrors. Wipe down doors/woodwork and where needed walls. Clean front door inside and outside.
Living room - have a good tidy up, wipe down sofa (it's fake leather so wipe-clean!). Paperwork is sorted, sort out OHs paperwork/mess.
Bedroom - clean away the mould that grew in the corner. Vacuum mattress & bedframe and turn mattress (involves removing and reattaching electric blanket) - if I have time that day, otherwise it can wait till I change the bedding.
Dust and hoover everywhere, inc. light fittings/lampshades, skirting, sockets and down back of telly/bed/wardrobe.
... I don't think I'll fit any decluttering in after that! But then I recently did some and generally keep on top of that anyway, so it won't really matter.0 -
Ok so the house looks pretty bl00dy amazing now - All I have to do is find time for ebay! Mind you I am waiting in for a delivery tomorrow morning and then a man to service our boiler in the afternoon tomorrow so if I can get the pictures taken tonight I might spend the day listing stuff tomorrow! Anyone fancy some size 12 loadies clothes or 34 waist/medium chest blokes stuff
lol!
Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0 -
This is what I got done from my previous post:
Wash bathmat and hallway rug. DONE - the dye in the rug ran really badly, rug still looks ok but it's utterly wrecked the bathmat. I liked that bathmat. Might have to get another one the same if possible.
Bathroom - clean it, including shower screen, do the floor, clean off all the mould that's grown over winter. DONE - the mould better not grow back like that again as it was blinking perilous getting to it all!
Kitchen - clean oven, do inside microwave if time (as was done recently anyway) clean out fridge, general kitchen wiping, do sink & floor. Clean out horrible disgusting food waste bin that I hate. DONE
Do all windows and mirrors. Wipe down doors/woodwork and where needed walls. Clean front door inside and outside. DONE
Living room - have a good tidy up, wipe down sofa (it's fake leather so wipe-clean!). Paperwork is sorted, sort out OHs paperwork/mess. DONE apart from OHs paperwork, I just piled it up together for him to deal with, I'm not his mother.
Bedroom - clean away the mould that grew in the corner. DONE
Dust and hoover everywhere, inc. light fittings/lampshades, skirting, sockets and down back of telly/bed/wardrobe. DONE including up in the ceiling corners etc.
Also did my normal load of washing, a sink full of dishes and made lunch for us both - DONE
Collapse on sofa with wine and DVD, then go and have lovely bubble bath - DONE0 -
Time for my spring clean and I aim to do it for as little as possible. So that means using up what cleaning products I have and making them do and borrowing what large cleaning machines rather than renting. Methinks that there will be a large amount elbow grease involved.
Day 1: Kitchen,
Need to wash all cutlery, crockery, oven trays etc. Will make my washing up liquid last by using less and scrubbing more.
Cleaning all appliances using what I have, when I run out it will be vinegar, bi-carb and lemon juice
Windows and tiles, as above
Washing all kitchen linens, I already have an eco ball and plenty of stain remover. Will dry outside rather than putting the heating on. It goes without saying to use the washing maching at the maximum capacity. I think that I shall presoak in boiling water so I can wash on a lower temperature.
Cleaning out cupboards and draws, once clean I will live them to make it easier, quicker and (hopefully) cheaper to keep clean.
Box up anything that I no longer use/want to flog.
Descale anything that needs it to make it run cheaper and last longer
Sort through and inventory all food etc. so I don't keep buying stuff that I already have.
Sort through and inventory cleaning supplies so I don't buy more until I need to.
Clean oven, I have some oven cleaner so thats ok.
I'm sure that there is more to do but cannot think of them at the moment.0 -

Washing all kitchen linens.
Erm, why are you gong to waste your time and money washing these? Don't they get cleaned after every time you use them already?
I'm all for spring-cleaning (even if purely as a concept rather than an actual practice) but most would draw the line at washing things which are already clean.
I think the bare minimum for cleaning is washing-up liquid, bleach and vinegar. Maybe some Sugar Soap for things which are really filthy.
I might get round to putting all this into practice some time.0
