Thanks for some of the suggestions - we're in the middle of a spring declutter first and the spring clean will definitely be following. Here's my list:

    Kitchen:
Clean all windows, inside and out
Clean and degrease where needed sides worktops and oven/hob
Clean floor, kickboards and cupboard fronts
    Clean all paintwork
    Clean out drawers

    Living room
    Steam clean carpet
Clean all paintwork, refinish if necessary
    Hoover sofa
    Major dusting session
    Clean net curtains
Clean all windows inside & out

    Bedrooms:
    Clean all bedding
    Major dusting session
    Steam clean carpets
Clean all windows inside & out
    Clean net curtains
Wash all paintwork and touch up if necessary
Hoover mattress (possibly steam clean it)

    Bathroom:
Deep clean bath, sink and loo
    Steam clean carpet
    Hoover out airing cupboard
    Clean all paintwork
    Clean windows inside & out

    Garden:
    Tidy borders
Mow lawn (if necessary, it hasn't grown much over winter at all)

That's going to take me a while!

Afternoon all. I've decided to join this thread, if it's ok, as I need to get motivated into doing a decent spring clean. I did half spring clean the kitchen and lounge a month or so again, in other words, if I could reach it without step ladders, I cleaned it. :o

I'm also going to be redecorating the lounge and hallway soon, plus the bathroom is getting completely redone, supposedly, very soon. It's put me off doing a big clean and sort out, but thinking about it, now is probably a great time to get rid of the stuff I don't need, so I can start afresh once all the decorating is sorted. It's just when I'm wiping down the paintwork and walls, I have a strong urge to start sanding. stripping wallpaper and painting lol.

    My plans for today are:
    [STRIKE]Clean out the rats[/STRIKE]
Clean and sort out the bathroom
Tidy and vacuum the living room
Iron the basket of clothes that's built up over the last couple of weeks (not often that happens!)
    Clean and vacuum the hallway

Other rooms that will need to be done are:
Ds' room. Might get him to help.
    My room
    Kitchen

    Oh well, best get cracking!!!
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

I have started my spring clean this long weekend. Managed to get rid of a bunch of junk which I clearly didnt need. I went through my kitchen cupboards and went 'huh' quite a few times along with 'I didnt know I had that' or 'why do I have 6 cans of sweetcorn'!! It is very rewarding sitting back on a finally sunny evening with a nice glass of wine knowing that I have earned it!!! I have more to go - ie the dreaded cupboard under the stairs which is my blackhole....
Hope everyone is having a lovely evening - what a change it makes when the sun is out!!!

  • So far I have managed to:
Blitz the living room and throw away the stuff the couldn't be freegled or ebayed.
    Ditto for Main Bedroom.
Stack all unsorted boxes in the spare room having gone thorugh them, chucked out the junk and relabelled them properly. Can't unpack them fully yet as we need some more shelves and storage first.
Made all the beds, sorted out all bedlinens and donated moth eaten and old stuff to local rescue centre for animal bedding and the like.
Organised all stuff to be ebayed into one large box so I can go through and photograph ready to be listed.
Cleaned carpets downstairs and hoovered all carpets in house.
Dejunked the bathroom, measured up for a new bath panel.

    PHEW

Now if I can get some of this ebay stuff shifted I can use the cash to buy the storage to sort out the remainder. Anything not sold is going to the charity shop as I'm sick of it hanging about!
Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!?

Just reading the lists on this thread has left me feeling exhausted, so I'm going to have a nice cuppa and a lie-down in my filthy midden of a home and hope no-one pops round. And maybe think about doing a tidy-up and a proper clean when it's warm enough to have the windows open.

The one job I dislike (besides ironing) is cleaning my wooden blinds, I have tried baby wipes, hoovering them, a special thing I bought from Lakeland, they are just dust magnets.

I take mine down, fill up the bath with a warm soapy water and dunk the blinds in at full length but closed IYSWIM (mine are cheapy white wooden blinds from a swedish home-products giant - and survive this fine). I leave them in for 5 mins and then sit on a chair next to the bath and wipe each slat once with a sponge (often 2 or 3 at a time) and pull them towards me as I'm cleaning them (have towel on lap), then turn the blind over and repeat on other side. remove blind to sink, empty water, rinse bath from horrible dirt, put blind back in and quick rinse with shower attachment to get soap off, then put it sideways in the sink to drain the majority of water off.

I too have that useless tool (bought for me), and have tried hoovering/wipes - this is the quickest and most effective way I've found of doing it - I used to have 9 of the darn things - but am down to 5 now - it is max 5 mins of actual wiping per blind, and as the bottom ones are soaking off the dirt whilst you wipe the tops ones, it becomes quicker as you go along.

but I'd be delighted if anyone has a quicker way of doing it because I don't love cleaning!
    :AA/give up smoking (done) :)

Well the spring cleaning has been on hold for the past day or two due to work and other activities but I'm determined to get back on with it tomorrow.
The plan for Thursday is to ....
    1. Clean the wooden floors downstairs
    2. Wipe down the skirtings with antibac stuff (have a mucky dog)
    3. Give the downstairs loo a proper good seeing to
    4. Clean mirrors
    5. Gather a few household things together for the charity shop and drop them off (pictures etc)
    6. Take photos of bedroom furniture to put on freecycle
    7. Tidy out spare room wardrobe ready for giving away and redecorating
    8. Take down curtains and wash bedding from spare room ready for decorating
    9. Give main bathroom tiles and taps a good scrub
    10. Give en suite bathroom tiles and taps a good scrub
That should keep me out of the biscuit tin!
  • Hello, I would like to join this thread please :).

Have been reporting on Decluttering thread, but most of what I have to do at moment is Spring cleaning related, although still some clutter which I will need to deal with as I go along.

I am getting to the end of a pretty thorough kitchen Spring clean, which was probably one of the biggest frogs. Still a few bits to complete, but am going to write a list of those and go back to them as single tasks so that I can make a start on another room, the general cleaning is getting a bit behind otherwise.

I would like to get the house all done while it's so cold out, so that I can get straight out in my garden when it gets warmer :).

Me, DS and DD still in our pyjamas! Few more minutes browsing and then on with the day. Sun has disappeared here, never mind.

    Happy cleaning all x

    Keep Smiling :)
