This is a pain, i got the original cable and used the nokia drives from nokia and it dont work?

So does this mean off to eBay again spending another £5 or so getting another "fake" cable that will work?

The problem seems to be that, most of the DKU-5 out there are clones and don't work with the Nokia drivers. So you need the third party drivers supplied with the cable.

There seem to be two main drivers, prolific and prodigy, the first I have posted a link, the second I will when I can find it. To make it that little bit more difficult, it seems that Vista drivers haven't been released.

  seems to me that GENUINE DKU-5 cables are not supported...

Well it appears your not alone, as it turns out I received an original nokia dku5 cable and am getting exact same problems as you are. Although when running the program I sometimes get the IMEI read and other times nothing. I've tried changing the com port and that doesnt seem to make any difference..

I've just been reading through the thread on

    http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=401813&page=110

seems to say it could be a

    DKU-5 SERIAL CABLE
    TO BE USED WITH COMPORT
    NOT USB CABLE

see below for update, someone has done it with a USB cable

Just picked up a DKU-5 data cable from a market.....installed driver disk which was the nokia DKU-5 driver (Browntoa had shown a link to in earlier post) and then connected up the cable...the unlock software kicked straight in and done the business :)

For info, the cable came in a box which is the same as this seller on ebay...item number 190114456511

For info I was trying this with a mobile action MA-8620E compatable cable which would "hang" and give error messages as people have previously posted. The cable I now got worked first go :)

Chap I bought the cable from was charging £15 a time to unlock these BB5 models he was actually using the same cable.

Forgot to add...the phone was an N70.....just done another N70 as well :)
