Any reason to use this as opposed to 0520999? Is there is difference in firmware version or other?

either will give you the latest update (v5.04.07)

Does the COM port need to be set between 1 and 9? What if those ports are already in use? My assigned port was COM 17 as everything else was in use. Can I continue with that? How do I check what other devices use the other ports? Will it mess up everything if I change my COM port to one already in use? Thanks!

EDIT: Ok, I figured that out and was using COM 8. But when I try Read Phone, I get the following error

"Bad connection! (Check FBUS cable, turn OFF/ON phone, restart program, etc.) !"

I tried turning phone off and back on, restarting program, but still getting the same error. I am using the right full set DKU 5 cable and also set the right ports. Please help!

    Thanks!

EDIT: The driver I installed is the 3rd party that came with the cable. It shows up as ArkMicro USB to Serial Port (COM8) in the Device Manager. I tried updating it with the official Nokia DKU-5 driver and it doesn't take it. Also, another thing I noticed is that when I plug in the cable to my phone, the headset icon comes up on the phone. I think the cable is being recognised as headset by the phone. Is there a way to change it or should I buy another cable? :(

It is a DKU-5 full set cable and I am using it on my 6630 locked to 3... I bought it from a high street shop yesterday. The man said £10 and I got it for £5. It could be a dodgy one. It is made in China. As I said, when I connect the cable to my phone, the headset icon comes on.. Strange enough!

how many pins has it got on the cable where it plugs into the phone

It is not the 6 pin.. It has the full set of pins.. I think it has 13 pins. In the DKU-5 compatibility list, it doesn't show 6630 on the Nokia website or anywhere. Could it be that?
  • download the usb2vcom.sys driver

place this file driver into C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers and update the nokia dku5 driver from your device manager... tick the box to locate your own driver from list and browse to where you put this driver.

    do it like this

    Install drivers without connecting cable

    Then connect cable

set control panel to "classic view"

    System>Hardware>Device Manager>ports (com & LPT)

Should show as Prolific USB to-serial-comm port (port?)

Connect phone (switched on) and open unlocker and set comm port.
