I am not having a delivery this weekend. I am determined to clear the cupboards and freezer. Popped into LidI on way home from work and bought some salad fruit and veg, milk and cooked meat. They have fresh fish and there was some reduced. I bought one pack. Made it for tea. Using bits we already had in.
Chopped up cherry plum tomatoes and put them in a dish. Put the two bits of cod on top. Then topped that with two slices bread, wizzed into breadcrumbs mixed with chopped parsley, cubes of feta cheese and a bit of the herby oil the feta was in. Baked in the oven with a few oven chips (it is Friday) for 20 mins and served with salad. It was very nice will do that again.
So far i have spent £38. With three weekends left.0 -
Nipped into town to get meat for next weeks meals this morning. Spent £8.91 in L!dl's, then £3.39 in the butchers. They had gammon joints that should have been £4 reduced to £1.99 each, so bought one of those and some local free range eggs.
Off to add to total to sig now and portion some of the meat up to go in the freezer for when it's needed! Hopefully shouldn't need too much from the SM now next week.0 -
I am a newbie who has gone over budget ALREADY by a significant amount. I have decided to change to budgeting per fortnight (aka per pay) and just keeping track of my spending to help me set a realistic budget.
I should not need to spend anything else on food as I have a freezer full of homemade ready meals and snacks, including 12 single serves of stirfries (two types), lasagna, curry and banana bread.
Thanks to the inspiration from this thread, I made my very own banana jamwhich looked at tasted like real jam and is delicious.
Just a bit of information about myself. I am saving for a month long trip to America in December and really need to save for spending money! I tend to go to the super market most days and get discounted products. I usually cook a lot on the weekend and only have freezer meals during the week.Fortnightly budget: $50/$60

Welcome goldopals - and good luck with the saving.
I've spent £16.56 at Farmf**ds today - lots of frozen veg, quorn and pizzas for the hungry teenagers who forage in the freezer. Also £41.15 on petrol. I was trying not to fill up because it's more fuel efficient apparently but putting a small amount in at a time just felt like I was never away from the garage!
£111.86 / £180. Not sure I'll make it to the end of the month without going over budget but hopefully no more food shopping required this weekSPC Member #112 :A Save £2k in 2014 # 160 :money:0 -

Thanks! Unfortunately I only found out I was going on the trip a week ago... everyone else has known for over a year. I was a last minute thought, but I do not care because it is AMERICA.I will need to save about $10 000 between now and December.
Oh, and my spends for today: diet coke, pepsi max (I am addicted- all gone), strawberries (all gone), margarine. dishwashing liquid and a garden hose. Possibly spent $50 including the hose.
There is one supermarket in my town, which is the only place to buy food from (apart from numerous cafes and takeout stores), so I do not have the chance to browse in other shops. The nearest supermarket is only about 20km away, so I cannot afford the petrol to go there very often. I think I am lucky because the nearest SHOP to my last house was 50km away.Fortnightly budget: $50/$60

Been to Morri$ons this morning and spent £12.59 on fruit & veg. Brought bananas, oranges, tomatoes, pears, mushrooms and a paper.
Last nights tea went down well and as well as the fish & salad we had a few fries. Tomorrow we are having by request sausage & mash as 2 grandchildren here and its one of their favourites - mind you they are very good and will eat most things.MARCH £62.38/2500 -
Just nipped in butchers for a lovely piece of brisket £6.75 and milk from T*sco £1.29. Kids back from a week at my mums so can see cupboards being depleted soon! Have enough of everything until mid week but will need to do an Ald* shop then.
Really need to stay in budget and we have some decorating to do over the next couple of months and need to buy wallpaper/paint etc and eventually new carpets, although that may be a longer term goal after we priced them up last week!0
