Some of the bakers in the first series of Bake Off were not particularly spectacular. I thoroughly enjoyed this programme, and I think if it takes off the next series will have some really good sewers on it. I was impressed by Tilly drafting her own patterns. I didn't like that green dress. I also didn't like the car material - it made an odd looking skirt. Maybe I'm just cynical, but could the woman becoming ill have been a ploy just to be able to stay in for another week?
I also didn't think Claudia Winkelman was that bad, and I liked it when, if one of the judges mentioned something which needed explaining she'd ask them to explain it for the benefit of those who might not know terminology.0 -
I got the book that goes with the series in Tesco for £10 yesterday. The book is VERY informative and gives lots of help and useful advice as well as all the patterns (you have to enlarge on photocopier) used in the series. Am really pleased I bought it as it is more than worth the cash. Now where can I get the material as a lot of dress fabric shops seem to have closed.........Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -

I really enjoyed it too. I thought the Steampunk costumes that Mark (think that was his name) made were fabulous and the older lady was so elegant. The sewing was great too, makes a welcome change from endless cookery programmes ;-)Flowers are sunshine for the soul0

He is obviously a fantastic sewer - I wouldn't even know where to start making those intricate costumes. I have a lovely picture in my mind of him and his wife both sitting next to each other with their sewing machines
I must admit I'd never heard of steampunk before - when I saw him in his clothes I thought he was in a re-enactment group of some kind.
I don't like cookery programmes either - except Bake Off, which is a must watch for my whole family. DH came to Bake Off late - only last series - so he might possibly come round to watching sewing too. My son watched and enjoyed last night.0 -
Brilliant program. Sutch a change to have a craft programe on TV.
I thought it was quite fast to go through making all those clothes.
Lots of good idea's. I thought I might try putting spme lace or ribbon around a t. shirt to give my clothes a new look.
Looking forward to next weeks program. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
Reminded me of my needlework "O" level exam 50 years ago...eek!
Enjoyable though!0
