Nectar AMEX Annual Charge £25

I only got one of these credit cards just so that I could accumulate Nectar points. And of course I've always paid IN FULL.
No way am I paying £25 for the privilege, so the card will be cancelled before May 10.
I've got a Tesco Clubcard credit card, but I think you've got to spend £4 just to get ONE POINT.
I've also got a Nationwide Select credit card, but I'd probably be advised to use that all the time as it's a cashback one. It's also one of Martin's recommended ones to use abroad. :money:0 -
I'm a Nectar Amex holder with an additional card on the account and am seriously thinking about ditching the Nectar card for the Platinum Cashback Amex based on a normal spend of around £600 a month. The main sticking point is the cash back will just get credited against the annual statement while the Nectar points are normally spent on a treat.
I've been mainly been spending the Nectar points on Amazon but obviously that ride is over. I have spent them on Eurostar points at Argos in the past, Expedia and I guess actually spending them on Sainsbury's (my main place of getting them) are possibilities.
Am I right in saying that the £25 charge is just for the main account holder and not the additional card holders?0 -
I phoned up today to cancel my card because of the £25 fee. They did not even mention being able to switch to a non-fee card and basically just said 'bye then' !
So that's the end of my association with them.0 -

Same here. But she did say the fee didn't start till some anniversary which she said for me was next march 2014
I just cancelled anyway as i hardly ever use a cc now0 -
Likewise I rang yesterday to cancel my card and was told also that my anniversary is February so I can continue using my card until end of Jan 2014 as that is when I will get the fee charged on the Feb statement. Not wishing to doubt the woman explanation, I was somewhat hesitant to accept what she said until she directed me to the last but one paragraph in bold print which tallied with what she said. So that date is the anniversary of when I originally opened the card. So extra points up to Xmas to use on the Xmas food bill and then cancel in the New Year.
So do check your letter and the crucial paragraph is the heavy print in the first paragraph towards the end of your letter which says: The Chages to your Terms and Cionditions including ...............Your first annual membership fee will be billed soon after the anniversary of your account opening on your February statement."0 -
Copied this off Sainsburys nectar card site is this a better long term deal than fee paid Amex?
Usual monthly spend about £1100
Our new Sainsbury's Nectar Credit Card lets you collect even more Nectar points when you shop at Sainsbury's. Just remember to pay with your Sainsbury's Nectar Credit Card and swipe your Nectar card.

Just phoned Amex to cancel the card due to the £25 fee. Was offered a fee free card, so went with that. They did a quick application and credit check over the phone. No new plastic will be sent out, just a credit agreement to sign and return. Will keep the Amex for foursquare offers.
Just deciding which Sainsbury's card to go for now. Nectar or Cashback? Think I'll go for the nectar version as the rewards work out higher for my average monthly spend.

I have three nectar cards under my account, one for myself and two for my family members so that they can get the foursquare deals which they did.
I am looking to keep my own card with the £25 fee and switch the other two as a fee free card.
Has anyone actually click on the link below and processed their switch over to the fee free card, or is it better to call up and get it down over the phone?
