Maybe we are saying the same thing - yes you get your original 2 points per $1 (sorry pound sign not working!) spent on Nectar card and you get an additional 2 points for spending say at Sainsbury's with the loyalty card, making 4 points per $1 spent, which is what it is now anyway. It's just they are helping themselves to $25 from now on.
Sorry, I thought you were confused about getting double points at Nectar partner stores compared with non-Nectar stores.
You are right, the points at a Nectar store would be the same as before. The points at a non-Nectar store would be twice what they were before (so it is really this you are paying £25 for).0 -
I just cancelled mine. I'm annoyed at them making me apply for the same card I already have in order to avoid a £25 charge.
This has just made me distrust AMEX even more!MFW 2019 #61: £13,936.60/£20,0000 -
Apologies for being a bit lazy and not reading thru all the pages.
I spend on average around £650 per month and pay it all off.
Is it worth paying the £25 and getting the Nectar points ? Thanks0 -

I could sum up by saying most people (me included) aren't happy, many have cancelled and suggest signing with a different cashback card -
Amazon have been mentioned and I would also recommend them. I think there are different deals but my mastercard was 3% for 3 months - then 2% on Amazon and 1% elsewhere - all cashback paid in amazon vouchers, no monthly/annual fee and a free £10 voucher upon acceptance. Plus it's much more widely accepted than AMEX in my experience.0 -

If you do not have any other type of Cashback card (which might be better) then you need to spend £5000 a year (£417 a month) to pay for the £25 charge.0 -
I already have 2 x Amex, the Nectar card they now want £25 for, and a free BA Amex. It's handy to have 2, for making extra use of the 4 Square offers.
I'l going to transfer my nectar card to the free one but only use that occasionally, and use my BA Amex or the majority of my spending.0 -
I have two Amex credit cards too but I'm going to cancel my Nectar for the Platinum Cashback.| Amex & Foursquare Hoarder |Cashback & Points (26/02/13)
Nectar: 71,816 (£357) | Avios: 62,036 | Membership Rewards: 45,076 (£225)
Foursquare & Xbox Cashback: £1,865 | Quidco Paid: £9860 -
yeah i just cancelled it.
Why do people use amex? retailers domnt supprot them and I got sick of asking "do you take amex" and replied with no.
The points don't seem to be that great, I only have experience with nectar American express which I presume has the lowest payout.
Their business model is to charge extortionate card handling fees to vendors and to drive demand for their cards by giving peoople cashback on purchases.
The concept is silly, why don't people just save more instead of being bribed to spend more money?
I recently had to scale down my spending. I put all my balaces on 0% cards and am now only spending from my current account. there was a HUGE shift in my buying habits, really think hard about whether I really want something before buying. When I was getting cashback, I just bought stuff willy nilly on my card, "i'll take care of the balance at a later date"0 -

To be honest the majority of the stuff you said seems more like your problem not Amex's. I don't spend anymore on my Amex than I would do with a debit card.0 -
On reflection I think I may stop with amex as the feedback I've seen regarding Amazon has been mostly negative though obviously you have to take it all with a pinch of salt. I have just loaded the foursquare £15 shell offer so that's the first years fee nearly covered so don't think I'll be too hasty.
Also at least with costco now you earn a full point not a half per £0
