Morning All
I hope all those with problems - physical or emotional - have a better day today. The sun is shining here and I find that always helps to make things easier.
I've just realised that it's only just over 4 weeks before I go away on holiday and 8 weeks to the 10K I am supposed to be running with my friend so need to make more of an effort with the weight loss. So I've packed up a healthy lunch to take to work - smoked salmon and cream cheese salad and 2 mini bananas. And just for today I promise not to buy or eat any chocolate at work. I have been doing quite a bit just lately - justifying it by thinking 'Well I have run 10K this morning.' Well I have run 10K again this morning but I shall not use it as an excuse.
My fabbing yesterday consisted of shortening a wrap dress I have been wearing that felt just a bit frumpy at the length it was. So I chopped 2 inches off it and rehemmed it. I shall wear it today for work. Speaking of which, I had better go and shower and change after my run.
Have a lovely day everyone.

Morning all!
Hugs to those who need them.
It's hard to know what to do when someone comes to you needing financial support. I think though bailing a person out doesn't always help them deal with the problem.. I agree, don't let her starve but she needs to sort out how to deal with her money, maybe she needs guidance to do that.
Still trying to drink lots of water/squash, still managing about 1litre a day. Still taking the vit supplements for my hair/nails/skin but not seeing much progress yet.
Dog sitting this weekend so lots of wakies planned. Unfortunately I'm on call and working from home this weekend so I can't go quite as far as I'd like. The dog came up to bed with us last night and kept the cats out of the bedroom. Had a fantastic night's sleep without them pouncing on us at silly o'clock0 -
Not much to report apart from I'm made up with cold - hopefully it will go away over the weekend.
Will be walking for exercise this weekend rather than running with this cold.
Off this afternoon so I'll be doing some cleaning, washing is drying out on the line, nice long walk with my dog around the waterpark and running some errands. Have done one on the way home and finally taken an old tv to the recycle tip after 12mths of putting it off!
Rang and had a chat with a professor today about applying for a PHD while at work- I'm going to apply and just see what happens, it's worth a try.
Tomorrow I'm fabbing myself up to meet my friend for a coffee and chat so I'm tidying my scraggy nails up tonight in prepartion of looking fab!final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -
Still very cold here but the sun is trying to peep out. I'm amazed at those girls at Aintree in their summer dresses. Great to have washing drying on the line though (I won't think about the ironing when it comes in:().
I've managed to catch up a bit on the house fabbing. Washed ornaments and polished furniture in 2 rooms so far. I also polished some brass candlesticks inherited from my great grandmother. Now I know why my aunt was so keen to give them to me!:) Hopefully all those suits that went to the CS were too big ww?
I've never joined the using up toiletries/make up thread but I am seriously trying to get through the stash that I have. It's a question of getting into a routine. I seem to have lots of small/odd bits too that come with gift sets. I'm far too mse to just bin them so I keep ploughing through. It always amazes me on some threads how people budget for toiletries in their shopping budget. I always seem to have far more than I can ever use!
Well done on shortening that dress rose. I haven't watched it yet but there was a programme on the other night called Sewing Bee. It seems all the 'Make Do and Mend' stuff is back in fashion.
Great idea about the PhD sparkles. No harm in having a discussion about it.
Lizzie, remind me when your DS's wedding is exactly. At this rate you'll be needing a big coat and thermals! The two I went to last year (October) I wore knee length dresses and had a pashmina. I also wore a sort of Alice band to one and a HM fascinator (flower on side of Alice band;)) to the other. So dresses seem to be the way to go. Have you talked outfits with your DIL-to-be yet? You wouldn't want to clash colours or dresses with her mum or bridesmaids.
Been out this morning and so got dressed presentably: jeans, grey sweater, checked scarf with grey in it. Make up all done too. I was looking at this blog

Quite interesting but, like me, she seems to have a smart casual 'uniform'.

Back soon.
Yes happily all way too big for me now
Am quite proud of myself - thought I was going to have to shell out £65 for a new Sky box as mine has been on the blink for months now. Phoned them last night and a nice lady (had previously talked to a man who was less than useless) gave me a few things to try with the wires at the back. The first few things didn''t work but the last resort one (the scary one, trimming the wires and rethreading) worked - ta da! One fully functional Sky box :j
Just picked up a couple of phone numbers for local tradesmen to do little jobs like fixing a dripping toilet (retired plumber) and cleaning the conservatory roof and guttering (local guy that does odd jobs). Just about to call them for a quote.
Then that's almost all of the niggly jobs taken care of.:D
Have continued spring cleaning and done all of the upstairs windows, the wooden blinds, bleached the kitchen bin and done the window and tidied the drawers, emptied the spare room of stuff ready for decorating and done two loads of washing (towels and throws and snuggle fleeces for when watching telly).
Also tidied out the bathroom cabinet and medicine box and chucked everything that was out of date or looking a bit sorry for itself.
Just waiting for the house clearance man (who promised to be here ages ago and then said 4pm) and then will have a bit of a rest.:)0 -

hi,
I've decided that slipping her a few bits of food is what i'll do -she hasn't got anything til next tues. She's getting lots of interviews but though this is good it's the cost of travel to them together with having to visit jobcentre weekly that's causing problems - bus fares have just gone up! She also has debts from before she became unemployed which doesn't help.
Maman- weddings in Aug so hopefully warm, and I have checked colours so no teal or pink/coffee. I've still got a while to peruse the shops.
LL and Bitsy- sorry to hear you're still suffering - get well soon
Well I've had a compliment, bumped into a man who used to live near me while dressed in muddy dog walking clothes, I didn't recognize him but he did me - said i hadn't changed a bit, was still as pretty as when I was younger. I had no make up on either as I'd gone out in a rush and not put on my bb cream. Really boosted my self esteem and was good to have a catch up too.
See you later my tea's ready.Frump to Fab - Solstice Sizzler

Hi Ladies, what a lovely thread! I feel very inspired and glad I found you. I've been trying to do a bit of weekly fabbing since the new year but you've made me realise I can still up my game.
I've never been one for paying much attention to myself, a bit of soap and water plus a CBA attitude to doing anything more than absolutely necessary in terms of beauty regime - except of course for high days and holidays. It's got decidedly worse since I can no longer really see how bad my skin looks or how bushy the eyebrows are without a magnifying mirror. And that's blooming scary!
I have been dying my own hair for years, so it all started with me finally giving in to seeking some professional help at a way fancier salon than I ordinarily would have gone to and had a new cut and highlights done. Which lead me then (from pure embarrassment) to consider new products to look after my new hair do.
l've always felt intimidated by those frightfully buffed and polished ladies at the Department Store but last week I found myself at the Clarins counter asking for some advice on skin care. Anyway the lady was lovely and figured out a simple cleanser, tone and moisturise regime for me to try - cost me a packet but I did get a free goodie bag of loads of other full-size things including hand cream, wrinkle wand thing, and body lotion that must have been worth a small fortune too. I am so loving using them because they were more expensive than anything I have ever bought before and it seems so lovely and indulgent. I feel like they were worth every cent!!
I got new glasses last year that cost a fortune and I have not been wearing them, so decided again enough was enough and I have to get those sorted too. I recently took them back to the opticians and explained the problems I have been having with them and now I'm getting new lenses put in them for free, cos they were indeed wrong prescription!! Hopefully I should have those back this week.
Anyway you ladies inspired me to drink a glass of water today. I might even go and have another now! Look forward to chatting some more soon.Mortgage

Perfume? I have not worn for ten or more years. I used to have quite collection years ago but have none now. I used to like softer fragrances, Chanel No 5, Miss Dior and Dioressence but think I got put off by some bad choices of more cloying and heavy stuff that I simply stopped bothering.
Can anyone recommend something really light and fresh I could try - I like citrussy fragrance. It would be a total shock to my system I think, so it would need to be really light and soft to start with.Mortgage
