Frugal Frump to Fab-u-lous Spring Equinox to Summer Solstice

Ladies, gents and general lurkers
Today marks the next chapter of the frugal to frump thread.
We decided to run it from Solstice to Equinox and Equinox to Solstice allowing short term goals over the 3 month period.
Feel free to chip in with any tips, advice or ideas - everything is welcome here. If you lurk I hope you'll dip a toe in the sea of posting and join in once in a while
Bottom line is changing your habits and replacing them with new ones is a marathon not a sprint. Take as many baby steps as you need, after all you didn't become a frump overnight. However the important thing is to actually TAKE THAT STEP. Do that and you can take another and another and another.......
So first step is to wear perfume. Every day. Doesn't take long to do, seconds to squirt it on. It's not going to slow you down or get in the way of your busy day but its a reminder that you're worth taking care of. If you don't like perfume thats OK, perhaps find a shower gel or scented soap you can use in the shower or bath. Or if you can't use those sorts of items maybe make an effort to wear a favourite piece of jewellery, whatever works for you

Oops missed the equinox on the last thread, haven't been spending as much time online lately. I wish I could say I have been terribly busy doing stuff other than cleaning this damn house but I haven't
:o
So spring equinox. Given the temp today and the snow predicted tomorrow I'd argue it feels anything but spring  still no such thing as bad weather only the wrong clothes
Back is still giving me gip so until that's fully restored no yoga just trying to keep good posture etc.
5:2 been a bit hit and miss last two weeks, I have lost some weight, not enough to lose a dress size but hey it's a marathon not a sprint and its least headed in the right direction.
In mental fabbing (which is just as important as the physical
) I have forgotten how much music makes me feel good, be it dancing in the kitchen at home (yes I do that :rotfl:) so my focus this equinox is to make sure I use music to my advantage. It's not surprising my favourite time of day is striding along with the dog on her afternoon walk listening to my iPod. Music makes me feel good, what better way to start the day than with something uplifting.

Hi all,
Thanks for starting the new thread Bitsy. I agree that mental fabbing is important and I've spent a fair amount of time on this over the last few months. I now try and meditate most days (don't always manage it), I'm still doing 5:2 and like you haven't lost vast amounts but it does seem to work and I think the weight crept on so take your time getting it off, a couple of pounds at a time is more likely to stay off than a crash diet. This is the first time I've stuck at anything as I'd get disheartened when the weight didn't go. I've slipped up sometimes but the big plus for me is I haven't had to give up chocolate :rotfl:and that's meant I don't feel deprived. My eating probably still can't be discribed as healthy but I will try and address that when the temp goes up I think it's easier to eat better when it's warmer as you tend to crave fruit etc when it's warmer. I figure if it becomes habit then it may stick around for next winter.
Went to look at the venue for the upcoming wedding and then went to meet DS2's fiance's family for the first time. I've never been v. confident meeting new people but something in me seems to have shifted of late and I wasn't nervous at all. I think I've realised that it's ok to be a quiet person, I used to get a feeling that I was wracking my brain for something to say whereas now because I've accepted that I'm never going to be a loud, confident person I seem to be able to converse more easily without the pressure if that makes sense. I still sometimes do that thing of thinking 'did I make an idiot of myself saying x.y or z' but not as much so I feel on my way to becoming quietly confident. The meeting went fine so hopefully we will meet again before the big day.
I've still got a long way to go but i've come along way since first joining this thread so thanks all of you for the supportive atmosphere of the thread. Let's try and remember it doesn't have to be a big change but any change for the better is a step in the right direction so let's give ourselves a pat on the back for being making those changes however small.Frump to Fab - Solstice Sizzler

Good morning everyone.
Thanks for new thread Bitsy.
New thread, new start. So come on ladies - lets
Spring into Summer.
The sun will come out to play - eventually:rotfl:
Life is full of promise, we just have to be brave and reach out and grab it with both hands.
Lizzie - so glad to hear you sounding so much more cheerful and positive, and yes you have come a long way. So pat yourself on the back girl, you deserve it.
Mental fabbing??? That's where it all starts isn't it.
We wake up one day and we think "Enough". Sooner or later something gives. We look in the mirror and think "Where I have I gone, what about me".
It's not narcissism - it's healthy to think about our own needs, wants and desires now and again. It doesn't mean we are selfish, or make us bad people.
We mustn't sell ourselves short - we deserve health and happiness just as much as anyone else does. We want this for our family and loves ones - we should want it for ourselves.
Pep talk over.
Onwards and upwards - Always. :rotfl:
Bitsy - hope that back gets better soon, just nurse it along,
I had to cut my visit to OH short today, just so tired and feeling woozy. Going to have a spot of lunch and just take it easy this afternoon, curl up with a book and a snuggle blanket.
The world can wait till I'm good and ready.:rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Hi all, and Bitsy thank you for starting the shiny new thread :T
I think you're all so right on the 'mental fabbing'. I love back over the past 3 months and feel that perhaps I haven't come that far physically but (with a few setbacks :rotfl:) I do feel I'm in a more focused and positive place mentally and that will spill over.
Saying that, I could have made more effort so nice big kick for the new thread and I will try harder on the beauty maintenance and exercise especially!
Bitsy - I know what you mean on music, it always brightens and motivates me as well. I've lost my mp3 player and have been missing it a lot so think will need to treat myself when have a few quid spare. Hope the back's feeling better soon x
Lizzie - you're sounding so positive hun, and am glad the meeting with your future DIL's family went well. Think it's fab that you're feeling more confident in yourself, people don't need to be constantly loud and outgoing for others to like them (in fact I tend to find those kind of people a little annoying).
LL - so very true words therehope you're feeling better, enjoy your quiet afternoon x
Well at least the snow has stopped today, though definately far from Spring weather. Did see some crocuses peeping out from the last of the snow this morning, so maybe it is coming slowlyBeen a bit knackered this week so not got much done. Me and OH are going out for the day on Sat though, we're going to scout for film locations, take some landscape photos and hopefully get a bit of inspiration for some scripts - at the moment we're planning on seeing an old quarry then heading up towards some woods with a lake and back via a castle (I love the area we live in! :rotfl:). So should be fun, I hope it stays dry though - think there's more snow predicted for weekend.

Thanks for the new thread Bitsy. I totally agree that music has the power to make me feel so much better. I too love dancing around in my kitchen.0

 everyone...and a big thanks to Bitsy for continuing this wonderful thread :T and I hope more goals are reached in this coming 3 month period
I'm living in the nightmare world of 'histamine intolerance' where nearly all the foods I loved and thrived on have turned on me and now cause all sorts of problems :shocked:...even the THREE GPs I've seen can't suggest anything to help, nor have I found anything online in the mountain of info/data I've ploughed through. So.....I've gained weight  and am NOT a happy bunny and I just drool/crave all the seafood that I can no longer eat and that totally relieved the arthritis in my hands:sad:
This has been going on since the begining of December...and what a shock it was when it first happened.....nearly ALL the food I ate cause such bad reactions...hives, swollen hands, face, toes etc.
I took antihistamines for a few months, but don't want to take them long term...have read longterm use can lead to AD  .... and I'm just SOOOO sick and tired of eating things that I really don't want to....like grains....just 'cos my body doesn't react to them (sigh).
Anyway, SORRY for the moan/rant....I just want to get back to normal... but it just goes to show that anything can happen, out of the blue, at any time, to anyone for NO apparent reason!!!
On a brighter note...and talking of music...did anyone see Phildel on the BEEB news this morning....what a FABULOUS voice and brilliant music!!!Her stuff is sooo beautiful!!!
Here she is on youtube....very much worth a listen to:-

Hi all!
Nice to see the shiny new thread.
Despite the chilly weather, I'm wearing a summery top with a short sleeved, cropped cardi, roll on flip-flop weather! (Too cold for flip flops yet, I'm not that mad :rotfl:)
Got Hubby to book badminton for Sunday morning, hopefully this will kick start the exercise regime once more.
Have a fab day xxx
ETA: Nurse said my blood pressure has dropped a little so maybe even though I'm not losing the weight, my body is becoming healthier0 -
Thanks for the new thread bitsy. Thanks for the tip about music. I've just put a CD on to listen to while I'm on here.
Sorry to hear so many poorlies on here lately. I just can't wait for the sun to arrive. This weather is so depressing.:(
I went into the city centre this morning and again came back with very little. Other than some cards, I bought a stretchy, black pencil skirt. All of £7 in Primani! Sadly I've bought it specifically to wear to a funeral I have to go to tomorrow. An old friend died very suddenly, a colleague I'd worked with for any years. I have to go out to dinner later and won't have time to change so I thought this skirt with a cream lace top and black cardigan would see me through. I'll put my black velvet coat on top.
I was envious of your plans for the spring/summer LL. When I was ill recently I took to watching some daytime TV. One programme I saw was a short series about Chatsworth. It looked really lovely. When I was up your way a few years ago I tried to visit Kedleston but it was closed so went to Sudbury Hall instead. Hopefully I'll get back up that way very soon. You have so much on your doorstep.
Back soon.0 -
Skymist thanks for the link, beautiful. I didn't see her on TV, sadly morning telly is commandeered by short persons
Sorry to hear about your intolerance problems, no advice but I hope it gets sorted out soon xxx
Maman sorry to hear about your old friendhope they have the send off they deserve xxx
His missus good news about the blood pressure :T
4 inches of snow predicted tomorrowreally can't we start spring now? I mean Punxsutawney Phil said an early spring.......

Thanks for starting the thread Bitsy!
Cold, wet and miserable here in Wales but no snow forecast.
Well i'm a bit feeling better than last week, been to dr's about sickness and been given tablets to treat stomach acid and ulcers plus had blood tests so might show something.
I'm looking pretty washed out too, but i'm eating sensible and sleeping ok so hopefully full of energy soon, some sunshine would help : )
Anyway hugs if you need one. Eh xx0 -
Hi, after lurking on all (yes all) the past frump to fab threads I've decided I'd like to join in. I used the very first thread as an inspiration and impetus to sort myself out and lost 50lb and started doing a lot more exercise after realising that really the one thing that would really improve my life would be to be fitter and healthier.
Since then, I've started going to fitness classes and made lots of new friends and completely refurbished my wardrobe (mainly from charity shops). However, over the past few months my weight has started to creep upwards and I'd ideally like to lose a stone - which would bring me down to 8st 13lb. That way I'd be able to enjoy wearing my summer wardrobe all over again, which I feel might be a problem at the moment.
We've just moved house and I am enjoying fabbing that up - lots of shabby chic - and I want to enjoy feeling fab in it too. I always wear perfume so have achieved the first goal already so hope to post regularly now to keep me on the straight and narrow. Having lurked for so long I feel I know you all anyhow.
Just to let you know about me - I'm 54, only 5 foot tall, and work part time in my son's business.
