I only ever knitted teddy scarves (short attention span and tiny balls of wool) - but I still managed to start with 20 stitches, then every time I counted them again there'd be a different number between 17 and 23. Edges were a bit wobbly.
I also remember doing finger knitting, with the long wooden thing with 4 nails in the top.
it's quicker in that you don't do the over and off bit. you pick and pull through so the wool stays in your hand. needs a bit more practise and not as easy to learn though.
can't decide to drive and park or take the bus to the hospital tomorrow0 -

I felt I had to quote that, sorry. Did we know that? Seems sort of major information, mainly because I thought of vicar's as decent people, not people that would do the dirty.
The vast majority of them are decent people who don't cheat on their spouses. (And he himself was first unwise and then weak, rather than deliberately bad, IYSWIM.) Those who do stray in that way generally get sacked and lose their vicar licences, as he did, but that's rare enough that it usually makes the papers when it happens, as it did with him.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

She'd then strain off all the fat and serve up a blackened, flat, oily slice of utterly disgusting stuff. Too much oil, wrong flour, I suspect.
Sounds like putting them in cold oil/fat to me. The fat needs to be 200C minimum IME.0 -
Pastures, re your previous post. That'll be a genealogical Posh Alert...Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Although, maybe, with your book-love and genea-love etc you might be 4rsed to trawl through and find out what it's about and how much is "real life".0 -

I've never been on a weightwatchers diet but would be smart to do so. I know people who've done it and it's got good reports. I gather it makes you think about what you actually need to survive on and it turns out that's a lot less than we consume out of habit. Plus it doesn't forbid very much and allows you to treat yourself which must be good for motivation.
I walk the dog every day (what's Wheezy up to these days?) but don't get much exercise otherwise.
Intrigued by the 5:2 business, nikkster - is that what I think it is - an alternating fast/feast programme?
I lost nearly 5 stone with WW some years back (treatment for my endometriosis had piled the weight on, horrible horrible tablets which have left a lasting impression on me - it also made my voice deeper and hair appear on my chin)....for me it didn't make me think that, it was just trying to work out at which point I started losing weight rather than staying the same and that point was at a lot lower points per day than the average person.
It was most annoying, to lose weight, I had to go down to the minimum amount of points per day they allow, the amount you usually go down to when you are near goal to give your body the extra push needed to get there. By the time I was near goal, I had to go below the minimum they said was allowed to be healthy.
It was always the same with calorie counting, I could never start at the higher amount, I always had to go straight for 1k calories per day and nearer 600 at the end of the diet to lose those last few pounds.
That was with a very active life...swimming, going to the gym, walking, playing badminton etc. Now I find I have to be under 1k calories per day just to stay the same weight as due to mobility problems, I can't be as active as I was back then.
The only time when my metabolism was good was when I was pregnant...then it went the other way. I could eat what I wanted, be as lazy as I wanted but the weight dropped off me! I even got accused of being on a diet whilst pregnant...yeah right, I had become the human dustbin in a bid to keep weight on. Mind you, it was handy as after each baby was born, there was no additional weight to shift, I would come out of hospital lighter than I had been when I got pregnant!
Off on a school run shortly, they are still in school holidays but the school are running an Easter school. James was in 2 days last week as the class have made a late entry into AS Drama (he is also doing BTEC Performing Arts), so they needed the extra tuition time and this week, middle son is retaking a controlled assessment in English plus having extra tuition in English as his Aspergers makes it difficult for him to understand fiction. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Today we had roast rib of beef. roast potatoes, roast parsnips, roast turnips, roast sweet potatoes. Carrots, peas, broccolli, spring greens. Gravy & horseradish sauce.
edit....we also had yorkshire puddings.
An apple tart with cream - like a tart tatin but a Mary Berry recipe and made by my DD.
I need to lose weight. Just need to get myself out of eating/feeding us comfort food and move more. Do not think it will be this week though... as I have the means to make steak & kidney pie or pudding and a lamb stew/ lancashire hot pot, another night will be pasta carbonara.
Yesterday I had a roast dinner - 2 small roast potatoes, some pork, small amount of stuffing, roasted carrots and a tiny Yorkshire pudding.
And that was my lot for the day apart from copious amounts of tea made with a very small amount of semi skimmed milk (I cannot stand milky tea, so have it strong, very strong)We made it!
