I immediately said I knew I wasn't supposed to say that, and elaborated about how I was switching from the top of one pay scale to the bottom of another. Was offered the job on the spot. A cracking workplace, great people.
Just noticed that's my 5000th post.:eek:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Yes, I'd hope they could (and would think to) do a bit of pre-application/ interview investigative analysis!PasturesNew wrote: »If they applied for 10 jobs, that might mean 60 hours' work.... perchance none would yield fruit. People seem to think jobseekers only have one job to look into/apply for and nothing else to do with their time.
DS1 spends hours preparing applications and doing research before the interview. Seems to perform well but the limited actual work experience holds him back.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Best bit of all was flying backwards through sunset. I wish my husband had seen that too, but he was on the earlier flight (BA001, I was on 003).
ETA: the Plaza was a deal through the company I worked for, which had an account there at the time so I got 50% off their rates too and an upgrade. All very MSE for something that was a long time before MSE.
I had relatives who won a return flight for two to NY on concorde. They had two daughters so each parent and daughter flew ordinary flights one way and concorde on the other IYSWIM.
I used to be lecturer in a college under the Concorde flightpath. When it went over, the lesson just stopped until it was gone. Concorde kind of felt like the answer to a question nobody was asking.:oThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

A bit like HS2?0 -
A bit like HS2?
As long as the question is how can the cities of the UK connect to each other and European markets directly.
And by that I don't mean via London.:D
And, (and this may seem like a minor point) shouldn't a country that invented railways have a good system? If not the best system? There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
How about 'I've heard it is a good place to snare a wife/husband likely to be earning enough to put any kids we have through private school and keep me in the manner to which I would like to become accustomed'
Well if they said that we'd know they has mistaken us for a US law firm!0 -
Let me explain. I was vaguely interested in the Financial Ombudsman Service, as I keep having to represent clients in front of them, and I thought "I could do a better job than their adjudicators".
Heck! I thought that I could sort their whole operation out nicely.
BUT I CBA to go on the two-hour journey to their offices for the pretty basic salary they are offering for basic adjudicators. This means that, if they are offering internal promotion for higher-paid jobs, they must have a pretty ropey pool of people to choose from, and they are not offering higher-paid roles outside the organisation.
Doesn't the FOS outsource all of its adjudication work to law firms?0 -

It said on their website that they pay adjudicators £22k pa. Sod that for a London job! Even M15 pay more than that and you'd arguably get to do something interesting. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Similar here. I worked just the other side of the M25 from the end of the runway. By the time it stopped flying, even our customers knew not to phone us at about 11am. We all stood in the car park to watch the last scheduled flight leave. It's a great shame that there isn't a modern equivalent. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? We did that.
We never did get engaged, I have no ring.:( We did get married 15 months later.
I think the ring can be done retrospectively, in fact I'm sure it can!
When I was little, we used to live not far from Manchester Airport, whenever Concorde flew over, everyone would dash out of their houses - unmistakeably beautiful.
Had a pleasant few days off from work, only at home catching up gardening chores and decorating stuff, but I never seem to get it done otherwise. No way can I catch up on almost a week of chat!0
