Tonight we met up with friends for dinner on the Hamble where they have moored their boat for the weekend. Then back to the boat for drinks.
I now have motor boat envy again. I like this more than sailing which is too much like hard work , and scary, for me. Motor boats on the other hand are like caravans that go to sea. This is like a holiday every good weekend in the summer for them.0 -
I too have been in primark once. That is also the same number of times I have been to Staines. I feel there may be some kind of connection.0

I lived in Staines for a year. One of my housemates was almost arrested for speaking French.
It's a dump although at least it's not up north or something. It's grim up north.
My housemates at that time were both 6'3" tall and very large in a kinda muscular/chubby way that makes you wonder whether they eat all the pies or are brick poo houses. When we went to local pubs I'd get picked on and people would try to provoke me to start a fight with them. Then they'd realise who I was with and buy me a beer. I reckon I got a dozen free pints in a year that way.
The name is a contraction of Saint Anne's apparently.
If anyone lives in Staines, reads this and is insulted then my advice is to move somewhere less dreadful.0 -
I've never been in a Primark.
I have, however, been to Staines lots of times. When I was a working pupil, I spent my days generally in Staines, Reading, Uxbridge, Oxford, High Wycombe, Bracknell, Aylesbury and Feltham Magistrates' Courts.
They are mostly dumps, and all rather far from where I lived at the time, too...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Primark is a good compromise for some-things
They have very good value cotton tops.
i am not the least bit snobby. I do get upset paying £99 for a viscose/elastane mix dress. For that price, I expect a bit of silk/linen into that.0 -

After living there for 4 or 5 years, I can confirm that Uxbridge is most certainly a dump! And I probably ended up seeing more if it than most (Census work and electoral register canvassing).
Edit: I don't go into Primark very often. But the last time I was there was to use up a gift voucher (courtesy of AmEx)... I bought a crocodile onesie. A wise investment:rotfl:0 -

I'm not snobby. But my guilt over cheap purchase is over work conditions and, when I'm feeling particularly pompous, impact on future craft.
My cruddy clothes come from the supermarket, and I think they fail on both levels. However, they are very very cheap. Tesco are selling a range of basic tops they call 'the perfect' so 'the perfect best' and ' the perfect t'. I bought two of the perfect vests a few weeks ago and have worn them both a lot, both with shorts around here, and with a silk knit cardio and expensive trousers and shoes to the posh hospital. They are really the perfect vest, perfect fit, perfect light weight. Not perfect colours (ok though, i got black and too patmeal to be taupe) Dropped in for another one and the oatmeal I try and pretend is beige or taupe had sold out.0 -
I want a onesie. Although I don't think they make my preference in my size: http://theparfaitcafe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/wtwta_max_costume.jpg0

My dislike of primark is more to do with the state of the other shoppers than what they sell, although that is of course even more snobby. It was a hellhole.0
