I think nannies can be positive. Isaac loves Sam, and she loves him, and they have a real and valuable relationship.

But it doesn't replace his relationships with OH and with me, we love him too. I spend lots of time admiring craft and art projects, although I was amused by the Christmas card whcih included a Christ-on-a-Cross drawing, as I thought he might have got his festivals mixed up a bit (-:
Isaac's only had one, as Sam's been with us since he was a few months old. Which is great for him, I think, the continuity is important.

Sam was with the family before us for years, too, and was discussing the birthday present she's buying for the 20 year old medical student she used to look after.

That's exactly my point. You spend time with Isaac, and he knows that you love him. And when he is cared for by Sam, it's somebody that he has continuity with. Win-win. Totally different from the families mentioned.

Well, it was an interesting & wet day, but the sunshine was in the company!
FWIW, the one person I chatted with the most was a person who I've felt that I've clashed with a lot on the forum, which was a pleasant surprise.

We had a nice friendly chat in the bar after too, whilst drying out. Tentative plans were discussed for another game in the summer, when it is not raining!

In response to the question, when're you free?;) Seriously, those who are close enough I'd be happy to meet if available, for a day, afternoon or similar.

I'm free most weekends as long as I get enough notice in advance and am allowed to bring my kids with me. I suggest any details of dates and specific venues are done by PM or email. No harm in talking approximate areas of the country, though.

Though if I try to organise a meeting for yourself, Nikkster and a gang of other females you might all think I've an ulterior motive!:o

Safety in numbers, jelly. As long as you invite a gang of us and not just one, nobody will suspect you of anything. ;)

(Assuming you're not looking to stock a harem or anything, of course. :p)
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

Went to visit dovedale & the stepping stones on Sunday. What a lovely place. Was amazed at the complete lack of any litter at all, despite virtually no bins being there.
Lovely weather, and as a result I would definitely like to go again. Perhaps another day in the summer I'll go with a bigger picnic!:D

Sounds as if you had a busy, happy and active weekend!
Should probably say, after all the false starts, old girl did go this morning. It was incredibly quick, quickest I have seen, and she was happily munching an apple as she went.

All very good IMO. Very content with how it played out. More convinced than ever... Send me to Switzerland at the end, feed me prunes drowned in alcohol and finish me off while I am still happy. :)

Glad it went as well as it could have done. Hope you're OK.

It would be an impressive and well-stocked harem, if he invited all the NPs who are of the female persuasion!

I don't think Isaac doubts that we love him. Give him 8 years or so, and as a stroppy 15 year old he might, but that's a phase he should come out of in the end!

I feel almost sick reading that.

Me too. As someone without children, I don't like to comment on the upbringing of others as for the most part it isn't my place and others can answer questions more knowledgeably. However that's just awful. It's bizarre, because everyone bar the self-absorbed ones must see that.

Can I please ask a question of the NPs? Do you have a favourite gadget (I'm talking about a tool here rather than a techie type thing)? I was thinking about my jar opener that I wouldn't do without, but would never have thought of buying until I came across by accident. I just want to benefit from everyone else's accidental wisdom...

These are my absolute must haves:
    Jar opener -

Omg. All the nice husbands dancing around swatting things in the evenings.

I hope you like sparks and the smell of singing insect in bed. :D. It really is one of the few things that makes me insist the curtains are closed. It's easy not to notice a nude man in an upstairs room. A nude man dancing around on the bed with a tennis racket swatting at the ceiling is fairly noticeable and potentially upsetting :o

Where I am is in my profile anyway. I'm free most sundays, but can be more flexible re weekdays from mid july.

Re the harem, the thought never crossed my mind! Careful putting ideas ther!:D

It was lovely! And comes with an official NPT recommendation for a lovely place to visit.:)

    And yes, absolutely it would!
