I can't speak for anybody else, but if I've given you the impression that you've upset me, then the impression is misleading, and I apologise. You and your kids seem to be late readers for whom it all clicks a bit later than for other people. NDG's Isaac may well turn out to be like that too. But he might turn out to be more like my son and need help, in which case it's in his best interests to get the help sooner. It's useful to have perspectives from both sorts of people on the thread. If he's just a late bloomer, extra help now won't do him any harm.

To second this my dh was a bit like Michaels. He liked books but liked mainly to be read to, and it was only when he found books he liked that he could read that he became 'a reader'. He has a book from an interview at a school when he was little saying he was obviously a little intimidated yet intrigued by'what he calls the big books'.

He is still a slow reader, but he remembers huge tracts of what he reads and spells just fine. I think that's the difference between 'different but able' and 'dyslexic, needing more support'. The results might be similar for dyslexics and non dyslexics but the causes and routes to success are probably different.

I haven't tried any complicated Russian classics recently....it was frustrating last time I tried.
Yes, I'm the same with these ..... er ... what? I didn't even know that Russian classics existed :)

Well, it doesn't surprise me that someone with Aspergers wouldn't like fiction... it's almost part of the definition for someone with that condition.

The problem with dyslexia is that it is a spectrum disorder... meaning, that every child with it will need different treatment.

Edit: What's not to hate about weird lengthy russian fiction where every character has twelve different names?

    ... different treatment.
Back in my day, there was only one treatment: a clip round the ear and a detention for having poor marks :)

I am finding, recently, that my eyes/brain aren't reading together. I often read words that aren't there, which worries me a bit.... not too much, just a bit. It means I sometimes mis-read the titles of threads, for example. This has never happened before, I could always rely on my eyes/brain being in perfect coordination when reading/skimming. I am fearful that this could mean that I could completely misunderstand something at some random point, something that might be important.

As treatment schedules go, that one is about as effective as using a leach to treat someone with a fever.

What I mean by different treatments is that there are a lot of both physical and mental techniques that you can use depending on the cause of the dyslexia.

For example, one thing that works with some dyslexic children are special glasses. All they need is glasses tinted in a certain way, and problem gone.

OH kind of knew I had a few mates online and calls you all monkey-hangers (long story) but he thought it was weird and I used to tell him bits and bobs of gossip.

When I told him about last years meet, he was quite intrigued as I was going to meet people who I had never met in RL...like I didn't know what they all looked like. He thought that was weird too.:)

And then he met everyone and decided it was all very normal and could see why I connected to each person even though in RL I may never get to know so many different types as usually one connects with people through work, hobbies, family etc.

I mean, I would never get friendly with a horse owner in RL as I don't have anything to do with horses.

I know I'm trying to catch up from the weekend never mind the previous week. Will have to do it in bits throughout the day.

A different forum I am on has a supperclub page and I'm a member of one and set up another, so I've met quite a few people that way, and because I move around the country for odd days, I often ask someone if they want to meet up for coffee and or dinner, depending on how 'well' I know them. Still alive and met some lovely people. Definitley horizon broadening!
Can't they just set up an enduring power of attorney to cover that risk?

I had an EPA for Mr Bugs ( we aren't married, but after 27 years lets not split hairs!), and it worked very well when his cognitive powers rendered him unable to look after his own affairs.

We've never had a joint anything, bank account, house or business. Suits me.
    Nice surprise this morning.

It's been a while since cotton bud got eaten by the fox and two of his bantam girls have been broody. I decided it was time ( with no idea of actual dates) to bush their eggs. To my surprise when I opened the doors to the back ( haven't done that for a few days) cotton eyed jojo had a chick, and when I lifted her up she had lots hiding under her wings. She has eleven in all!

I feel broody myself now, bet they look awful cute:o

Got to the next page....and I was right, they do. Ahhh.

Yup too much on here for me. Sorry if I missed anything.

I got chatting to one of the girls from corporate comms and I accidentally promised to ride to Brisbane from Sydney and get sponsored for it.

    Damn.

Ah, you know you want to do it really!

Only thing tha tannoys me is when DW does her spending in a non-MSE way like failing to use the correct cashback credit card or buying something immediately rather than looking online to see where it is cheapest first.

I'm surprised that wasn't in your wedding vows, to love, honour and check that you can't get triple points:p (You know I'm only jealous of your ability to accrue points/save money!)

Well it might be obvious to you and I but it seems not to the English teachers at his school!

They thought it was laziness.....until I explained.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I've got the same, 'Oh hell' feeling as when I started reading a bit more about Ventoux after I agreed to go up there.

I understand that Mrs s ended up with 4 wedding dresses and 2 engagement rings as the deal worked out better that way.

They got 3 weeks in Mauritius with the points from the champagne for the toast. The airmiles they got as a result of the flights were swapped for the deposit on the house.

I also heard that michaels is secretly disappointed that the champagne didn't come with some actual toast for the wedding breakfast.

Old girl's number is almost up. Another infection, this time in her lower jaw. It's still not slowing her down or causing her any pain. My bet and I were just poking around in her mouth.

She also has developped what is essence is hay fever. Bit sticky for a horse that one. We think that its just because she is so old and depleted now. However, she munched on her lunch then pushed past vet to get to the back garden ( where the grass is soft and sweet and so where she likes spending a portion of each day). Her ears are still forward and she is happy and interactive.

We felt we could have done it today without it feeling 'wrong', so many people would have done it years ago, but that it didn't have to be today. It will be very, very soon though. We really cannot see it being more than a fortnight.
