To be honest, it is always a wrench to put an animal down for old age. But there have been times in my life where I think we kept a pet too long; sometimes it is kindest to put them down.

Apologies if I'm oversimplifying this, but do you love him any less as a result?

I don't think wanting to help a child fulfil his potential is lack of love. :o.

Totally aside from any situation with dyslexia et al there are normal children who are average or below, and its sad when they are made to feel bad about themselves (I think my niece 2 is one of these). Niece one is also not 'extraordinary' but was able to aspire and be supported, which may well have left her feeling she is more special than she is :D but self confidence is a hugely beneficial tool if well employed.

If a child was 'ok' and reading at their own level or below, fair enough, loving and encouraging them is all that's needed! but if they are bright and not feeling fulfilled and indeed feeling held back,.....whatever the cause...teaching, a learning issue, a stress one, its incredibly sad....and leaving it doesn't equate to loving them 'just as they are' IMO.

I agree, If old girl were special girl the time would have been and gone. Old girl is a very different person, and she seems not to feel any pain. She looks atrocious of course, and you can smell her from a long distance away, but she is happy. I want to get it before she does hurt but not so soon that we are taking her too soon. By nature of her upbringing and career she is not a cuddly horse particularly, (polo ponies are usually turned out at the end of summer and left pretty much too it till spring and time to get them fit for the summer season again) and her independence, while waning is still very evident. We want to be able to let her go before she realises that the 'independence' she thinks she has is an illusion, E.g. She thinks she sneaks into the garden each day. In realty, its where we want her, but it makes her happy to think she has got her own way. I wouldn't want to have to lead her in and make her feel her fun was gone.

She also has developped what is essence is hay fever. Bit sticky for a horse that one. We think that its just because she is so old and depleted now.
Hmm - I hope that isn't why I have developed hay fever that gets worse every year :)

PS agree with some other posters. Have had to very much skim read - partially as eurovision has absolutely no interest for me, but also you lot have whizzed through 30+ pages since I last logged in last friday! NPT is becoming a bit of a f-t job if you want to keep up fully.
Eurovision seems to be another mushroom question - I wonder if likes/dislikes are correlated. Mushrooms and Eurovision - Non Merci for me (but I did like the at a distance shared experience thing though)

Lemon I think you and I thought the same thing re Issac you just expressed it much more succinctly.
    I think....

I've got the same, 'Oh hell' feeling as when I started reading a bit more about Ventoux after I agreed to go up there.

I understand that Mrs s ended up with 4 wedding dresses and 2 engagement rings as the deal worked out better that way.

They got 3 weeks in Mauritius with the points from the champagne for the toast. The airmiles they got as a result of the flights were swapped for the deposit on the house.

I also heard that michaels is secretly disappointed that the champagne didn't come with some actual toast for the wedding breakfast.
He should have waited until after he'd appeared on the telly..... could have got the whole wedding paid for by OK Mag :)

OH is abroad, an eastern european country.

He puts his wallet and passport in the room safe and goes for a walk. Returns to find the safe open but the passport and wallet still there!

    a) Disturbed thief?
    b) He didn't shut it properly?
    c) dodgy closing mechanism?
    d) thief took numbers and info and left?
