LIR, you really are not healthy enough to be living in that ice-box of a house. How are you getting on with pursuing the incompetent boiler people legally? Can you install large numbers of electric heaters for the sake of your health and get the boiler people to pay for the exorbitant electricity bills to ensure that you aren't putting your health further at risk? Heck, I'll contribute to your electric bill myself if it keeps you well.

you know I don't need help with the bills. It's just I hate spending it on that sort of thing.

We have heater on for the dogs, in parents bedroom ( when parent is here, though they are off ATM) and a couple floating around which I pretend do not exist.

The complaints procedure for the industry is frustratingly long , and I am not convinced it will prove unbiased, but we have to go through it first. The first stage wanted up to fourteen days, they referred it on to another worth of complaint body ( because of nature of complaint) and they take 21 days. The installer gets seven days to respond......

Any work done to it by a third party invalidates both the original agreement with installer and the complaints procedure rules. We asked if under the circumstances....and we're told no. Dh also explained about the particular nature of my health and the medication and cold, and we were still told no, though he feels they encouraged him to consider dropping the complaint and letting it go for 'our benefit'. Obviously that's not possible if we fight this, so we aren't.

In bed I am totally warm, and I have a heater in the bedroom I use more so I can do things like moisturise after a shower.

The real trick is to keep busy and active, and that's been a fail for me this winter, which might also be why I feel it so much worse! :o:D

It's almost over now, what ever happens, it cannot be below zero in say, ten weeks.

4 days off so I decided to fracture my toe walking in to the hoover in the dark last night. Do you need to get treatment for a fractured toe? A&E or minor injuries unit, wait for 24/48 hours for the swelling/bruising to go down?
    I think....

Oh Michaels, poor you, I know that hurts.

Personally I don't (most of mine have been broken. bUT I would if its a big toe (dh didn't playing football barefoot (well, what did he expect) and his still hurts years later. At the least they can check its a simple fracture and needs RICE or strapping to its neighbour or if its a more complicated break.

Poor you, have a get well kiss.:kisses3:

Commiserations. I broke a toe when I walked into a wicker laundry basket in the dark. Toe wedged in the wicker and when I walked on toe stayed in the basket and broke. It was a nasty colour and hurt but mended by itself with no further problems.

Not too sure what they could do so I just asked a suitable qualified friend who said it would be fine:). You may need to watch out for little problems longer term.

Mr S fell from a ladder at roof height. He landed on his feet before keeling over. As well as significant impact injuries he dislocated his big toe. It set solid so that it would not bend which was not a problem for many years however in the last 6 months it has been painful and changed his gait - giving other aches/pains. A podiatrist has diagnosed that the 'hard skin pad' is actually a bone growth, not likely to be helped by surgery but treated by wearing orthotics. These were fitted about a month ago - the toe is more comfortable and his other muscular/skeletal aches and pains diminished.

edit: I would choose minor injuries unit if I went anywhere. Would not willingly go to an A&E on a Bank Holiday (((shudder)))

michaels I'd phone the NHS and ask them and see whether you need to go in. My aunt went to Hemel Urgent Care unit at Christmas, they took xrays but it took nearly two weeks for them to call back and say "can you get down here, we need to see you, you've broken your foot". They have people on duty to take xrays, but not to do complex interpretation of the results. I saw her that day and offered to take her to hospital myself. Her foot was very bad.

For that reason, if you need to be seen, I'd go to A&E in Watford rather than the UC unit in St Albans. DH and my mother have both had excellent treatment at the A&E in Watford, though for different issues. As you are in the same NHS trust area and it is now the next major break after Christmas, I'd be worried about not getting the right level of treatment if you go to UC.

Apparently hmv oxford street were doing ex-display ipads for 200 quid today but having just spent 1200 on the car probs I just couldn't be motivated to trek over there at lunchtime.

Just noticed the garage quoted 3.8 hours for the clutch but charged 5.8 hours

That would have far too far as a trek fo me. Also, I get the apple education store discount.

The amount of time and money you've spent on the car it would have made more sense to sell/get rid and get another one.

Depends in what you broke so you need to get it seen to for them to decide if it will be worth doing anything with,

Time to plant the potatoes lol, what a year eh.

missk I still think you are mad. It is freezing here and the ground is like iron. Good luck though, I could never have your enthusiasm for garden and I'm a teensy bit jealous of that.

I don't think that's the way to think about it. A minimum wage retail job can be done by just about anybody, so they will want to pick somebody uncomplicated, which you aren't. You're much more likely to get a skilled job where they decide that your skills and abilities are valuable enough to make it worth taking on somebody with your domestic responsibilities. So aim high! :)
    :)

I was coming from the other angle...not worked for some time, so all I could expect was a minimum wage job or a more junior position elsewhere.

My expectations are not high, I know I have to start at the bottom again as although I have kept most of my skills up to date and added more to my skillset, I still have that awkward career break time to get over. To most employers, I am an unknown quantity after being out for so long.

That said, I have applied for something which is a new and exciting part of the old sector I worked in...and that is def not minimum wage.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

The kiwi had a short back and sides today. He looks so different. Unrecognisable. Different colour even, and a different shape. Had to take everything short, not a breed clip because he has got quite knotted in this damp muddiness. It's just the kindest way to deal with it. Dh didn't believe it was him until he grinned.
