This is where the buffet was, not sure how much it cost but certainly not within a price range I would ever consider paying.
Upon investigation, it looks like £35 - £50 per person for their buffet.

I loaded a sample menu and didn't have a clue what half of it was, so wouldn't like it there.

    Tripadvisor - lots of people aren't over-enamoured.

To me, a carvery is like a super-large Sunday roast veggie selection.... although I hate those that hold the yorkshires to ransom as, given free reign, I start by putting 3-4 of those on my plate :)

One TA feedback says "9 courses all told and as much of each as you can eat and as many times as you can make the journey" ... 9 courses? Blimey. For me, if you're paying for a carvery one course is enough...... and I've never seen one with more than two courses.

I don't see the point of paying, say, an extra £3 for a 2-course carvery, when it means you're cutting back on what you take in the first course to leave room for the afters...... mugged, that's what the 2-coursers are :)

Does getting lunch on a mate's expenses count in the cheap lunch stakes?

If so I vote for three course overlooking the Opera House with 3 or 4 bottles of wine as being my cheapest lunch.

Cost £0/$0 (at the current exchange rate). Mrs Gen and the kids got fed too.

I had an interesting journey to work - I broke out into a horrible sweat about 5 minutes outside waterloo and then promptly fainted in the middle of a crowded carriage. Luckily there was a nice person (although not a Nice Person) on the train who gave me some water and looked after me.

This is at least the fourth time this has happened, although the first time I have actually passed out on the train. The previous times I have managed to make it off the train and sit down somewhere. Expect I will have to stop saying there is nothing wrong with me and go to the doctor now.

    Sure you are not pregnant?

Best advice if you feel you are about to faint is to twiddle your toes; it's the quickest way to get the blood circulating. Second best advice is to sit down quickly. Third best advice is to make sure you have somewhere to fall to. People die when fainting and being held in upright position. Body's natural defence is to make you collapse so the blood gets circulating again, remaining upright is really dangerous as causes lack of blood supply to the brain.

So told to me by a friend who faints a lot and has a less than patient doctor for a husband.

I think it will be very interesting to see what amount of slack is given to Moyes at Man U, whether he will be allowed the odd season without any silverware (as I beleive Fergie had even fairly recently) or whether it will be musical chairs as with most other clubs in the premiership (with the exception of Arsenal).
    I think....

I got taken to the Savoy for dinner once, with my parents and my next sister, by one of Dad's clients. I was 17, my sister was 15 (the 11 and 9 year olds were left at home on the entirely accurate assumption that they'd get bored).

It was fascinating, although I remember my sister and Mama having a noisy exchange of views about "appropriate clothes for a 15 year old dining at the Savoy" which my mother won.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

S'true. You were right. You usually are.

Bloody hell, I am. Having passed sweet ugly yesterday the vet called me shamefaced just now.

The blood test (which the vet queried if I really wanted done...it's not standard but I just had this nagging feeling, and I never think its a bad idea to have a baseline to check against in future years). I said...yeah...she looks a tiny bit liver-y to me. Came back showing very, very poor liver readings. Vet is extremely apologetic...she shouldn't be, she passed the horse on the standard vetting, its only now that the tests show what most people don't look for it changes the opinion.

Poor dh though, and poor pony. I have asked the vet who took them to feel free to forward the result to the owner. There is a welfare issue (the sale is a sale of compulsion with a welfare charity involved...which I think is a bit aggressive tbh, in perspective of other welfare issues).

The chances are we could improve the liver a lot, livers are amazing organs, but such terrible readings on such a young horse.....it's a step to far for my compromise and fir agrees.

    Are you a horse whisperer?

Nope. Absolutely not a horse whisperer. (There are amazing trainers out there.....but I do not believe in 'whispering' as a thing distinct from sensitive training and think the promotion of such ideals actually let's other people think as they don't 'whisper' its ok to use methods of force to train. I don't believe in equine communicators either. (People who have some sort of psychic link to horses and tell you its had an accident in a gateway, been hit my a man and loves you the most of all its owners but is always trying to explain things to you that you do not understand)
