I did speak to somebody last Wednesday, so I started my "silence count" from then. Not seen another human being since then either. Might leave the house tomorrow for a bit.

    Hello Pastures.

Are you happy with this? Anything we can do to break the silence?

:) went out for another 2.5 hours after lunch, my fingers and toes are slowly getting circulation back again.

I'm sure I was planting stuff out this time last year. But I daren't even sow any seeds at the moment.

    You're mad!:D

I turned the garden last weekend, in a fit of anticipation.
Get to this weekend, & it's under 6 inches plus of snow...

& like michaels mentions, cold for the week (no thaw forecast) and strong chance of snow next weekend!:(

Kinda hope it doesn't snow next weekend - a friend is supposed to be visiting & haven't seen him since christmas.

Have been to jersey many times, usually we only go for 3 or 4 days now having been so frequently. Quite a few things to do and see, bit of archaelogy, WW2 features a fair bit, Durrell's zoo, some brilliant beaches, good walking, some really good restaurants and easy to go to the other islands. I could probably get a job on the tourist board there now:-)

We went to Jersey one year, thought it was a beautiful place.

Not sure if you need a passport. Legally you don't but airlines may insist on a passport to fly and it may be necessary to produce something to prove you don't IYSWIM.

No passport required, though airlines need some form of photo id. Haven't had a passport for years and Jersey makes me feel as if I have at least gone away. Finally applying for a passport now as a supplier is threatening to take me to France for 2 days. This is a miracle as normally suppliers extend bonhomie as far asa box of chocolates at Xmas ( happy with that though:-))

I think we'd be more likely to do a car & ferry journey. Partially because of the experience etc. This may impact on which is better/more likely out of Jersey or IoW, but there you go.

Last year one of my clients got sunburn at the end of feb/beginning of march.

But summer was such a wash out. Maybe we are going to have a decent summer this year as a sort of balancing out of this slow start up. :)

We can hope at least. Far too wet and heavy to touch the garden yet here.

Fingers crossed. Bowls season was slightly less enjoyable for the lack of sunshine last year.
I think we had a really nice week in May, and I got very lucky with the last(ish) week in august when in newquay, as the weather the whole week was superb, one minor fog aside!

I pray every day for a nice summer this year...

Always fancied visiting the Channel Islands. Dara O' Broin visited them and wondered the same as me how they could fit in all the things a country should have but realised they'd have to be missing some things they didn't have room for.
He guessed it would be piano factories but i'm guessing it would be much more.:D

We had a weekend in Jersey last year. It was lovely and felt like a long break although it was only 3 nights. We stayed and ate here

The rooms were OK, but the feel of the place, the food and the service were fab.

I was laying by the pool watching the staff and other guests on the terrace and it looked like a scene from Poirot.

I took the kids on their Joeys (pre cub scouts) autumn camp which was fun. Saturday started with 4 hours of gardening before setting off.

We got there at lunchtime on Saturday and as there was no Mrs Generali with us, I got stuck in to putting the tent up. It was 31C and I went through about 4 litres of water while struggling with the bloody thing.

Then I discovered that the kids' 'self inflating' air beds need a power socket. As I hadn't brought my 25km long extension lead with me to enable me to connect the air beds to electricity/Civilisation I borrowed a foot pump. That was another 2 litres of water consumed as I pumped them up.

After eating about 4 lamingtons (a kind of Aussie cake dipped in coconut) I got going with taking assorted kids out in canoes. Mostly they seemed to enjoy using it as a diving raft and then trying to tip me in when climbing back up. I gave a few lifts back to shore to some of the swimmers that were starting to struggle. A few minutes back on the banks of the river was enough to catch their breath before jumping back in.

After a double helping of dinner (burgers with tons of salad including beetroot in the Aussie tradition) I had a bit of a lie down while the kids played Star Wars. The game seems to be much the same as cowboys and Indians only with light sabres.

The campfire was absolutely not required on such a hot day but is apparently necessary for cooking marshmallows. Then a cup of milo and in bed by 10pm, absolutely shattered.

Obviously my daughter who normally sleeps through the night without needing to go to the toilet awoke just as the rain started and declared she was 'supe dooper ooper busting'. We went to the first toilet but the spider in there was too big for to even consider using it so had to run in the rain down to the other end of the site. Joy.

Up early on Sunday for 'toad in the hole' (a piece of bread with a hole cut in the middle which is used to hold an egg. Then the whole thing is fried. We had that with bacon, tomatoes and small round pieces of bread with Vegemite.

After breakfast was our version of Chapel. A 20 minute talk on the bloke who gave the Scouts the land we were camping on. Then more canoeing and a game of cloob(?) an old Viking game apparently where you throw bits of wood at other bits of wood.

We drove home exhausted and filthy. My daughter had run out of clothes so spend the morning swimming in the river and playing in the mud in her jeans and a body warmer. Crazy girl. I had to hose the kids off before going inside for a bath which is how camp should end.

I'm knackered now. Thank goodness I'm back at work

Can be hideously expensive taking a car on the ferry, probably cheaper ti go as a foot passenger and hire a car.

@ zagubov love Dara , missed that little gem

Ah Gen, that sounds fantastic! When I was a brownie in Australia we went in the bush looking for wildlife - the idea was that we spot koalas, roos and stuff native to the area. We saw those and a rattlesnake, then went swimming in the creek. Things you don't get to do in England. Glad the kids enjoyed it. Plus a day like that should always end with Milo.
