Gravel on the drive, puts burglars off as they can't approach quietly and those lights that detect movement.
Totally agree, live in a safe area.
Location, location, location you can change windows and wallpaper.
If you are going to assist, then I wouldn't try highlights as a first attempt. You risk being blamed if the highlights are too subtle to notice, too bright or you have captured too much hair and she ressembles a zebra! Go for a wash-in, wash-out colour or a semi-perm.
£120 for highlights!!!! For that you should be getting a colour cut, blow dry and highlights....and a coffee or two.
The further one gets from 'good' cities the more expensive things get because the posher salons have less competition from the other ones.
£120 would be a bargain for my hair in many places (curl always adds to the time it takes them, and its long). I don't know yet how much next week is going to cost me, but its a less posh place in a not posh area, and the only reason I am contemplating it is because I think social pressure will make it more important any problems are rectified. Hairdresser was frank (which I like) and told me they didn't want to be credited with it unless they were allowed to take the ends off.0 -
I always home dye my hair, not had any disasters yet (she says touching wood very firmly).
Think a cut and blow dry is about £22 here but I've not been to the hairdressers for a couple of years, so it probably is a bit dearer by now.
James had a complete restyle (including lopping from below shoulder hair to a very short style) and beard/mustache removal for £6.50 a week ago.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
PN how about that Acorn stuff we were looking at a week or so ago to help you know what areas are like?I think....0

How about a different part of the country then - maybe round Sue's way property is a bit cheaper?I think....0

Trouble is, I don't have much wriggle room on price. My budget is about 10% under average price for the non-posh areas.
I'll just have to keep looking..... something might turn up.
I inhabit a world with a 1-bed pokey flat budget.... and a wishlist as long as King Kong's arm
The areas adjacent to the nice areas should be safe and will become nicer as time goes by.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I used to do my own. No hair disasters, but plenty of carpet and clothing disasters where the colour has escaped.

Maybe you are right, there are a lot of hairdressers on our local high street. Some consider themselves posh, others you would cross your fingers before trusting them with a wash and blow dry. I want a home to enjoy now. Not to have to bank on living another 10 years for the place to improve.0 -

Yep, loads and loads and loads round here, but no one who I have stopped I the street to ask where they get their hair done.
PN, I usually don't get my hair dried either, but IME a good colourist /hairdresser will insist to see what's the colour is like on dried hair. If there is a problem or so etching you want different next time it's then they can make a note on your details and how they get to know your hair. Hair dryers might be rubbish for hair, and after they have styled my hair I normally go home, shower and do it again:D (curly hair has different styling requirements to any other hair) but its fair to them and fair to me to let the actual result be seen. If they don't ask to dry if off just a bit I know they don't really care what kind of finish I am going to get.

On the garden front, I constructed 1 greenhouse today. It is up & almost full. The other cover still hasn't arrived, & I really would like it to arrive this week.
I did intend to put my polytunnel up this week, but am going to give it another week or 2 before I do.
Planted my flowers for the hanging baskets etc.
Did want to get some other tubs today after the recent poundland purchase. Haven't been able to though. Will do so next weekend I guess.
Next weekend will see round 2 of much plantings - carrots, beetroot and lettuce will be planted. Round 2 of tomatoes will probably be the weekend after...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
