Everyone's been to black tie gigs, surely?
No, never. Not been invited to one - had no friends that were ever invited to one - don't expect to ever be invited to one.

Aren't men's black tie socks always silk?

    Errrr.....errrrrrr

    Dunno!

(Grr, I hate doing that, I really really want to correct it!)
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Everyone's been to black tie gigs, surely? Even if they hire it for once in a while?

And you can see socks, between shoes and trouser ends!

Yes...but I never took any notice of what socks the blokes were wearing unless they had decided to go ourside of the normal black socks and were wearing dayglo pink or something.

That reminds me, need to sort middle son's prom outfit out...

Evening all, can I just chip in on the black tie debate and say that I'm not a great fan of silk socks on men? I prefer a fine gauge wool. Oh and never coloured, they have to be black.

It had to happen - DD2 has been invited to a birthday party at the local indoor snow slope - £18 per head which ratchets up the spend to keep up pressure another notch....

...whereas if we do a party it will be chez us, catered by us with hopefully some friend / relative roped in to be the 'entertainer' :)
    I think....

Mr S is almost a professional formal dinner attender. Most of them in the Baltic and Europe often in amazing venues with local mayor/big wig (biggest wig so far "Putin") and very few are Black Tie. He has been to several this week and is at another tonight.

On the other end of the scale we have village ball...and guess what....it is black tie...in the village hall and adjoining marquee.
    Socks will not be silk.

The thing is the biggest market for erotica tends to be 40-50 year old women who don't want !!!!!! but do want a romance story with some extra naughty but not too naughty sex.

Most erotica is probably simply romance fiction with a different marketing label.
...guess much of it is writtin by middle aged women then for middle aged women...who'd a thought it :)
How old is your DS? I thought he was early 20s?
26 in a few weeks time.....

....as for birthdays I have a hideous one due in 3 weeks time.
Don't really want anything but a back extension (on the house as that read wrong :o)
I know there is a secret plan for a 'do' going on (which I have rumbled but have to pretend I haven't).

PN, I know it's not the thing to say on this board but the prices seem to be creeping up monthly at the moment.
I know I am basing this view just on SE London and Thanet knowledge but it could spread out.
All I know is if we had 'done' Margate 2 years ago would have been a good 20% lower and our neighbours house was 350 ish @ peak 2007 and has just sold for 430.

I know you can't rush to buy but prices are now following inflation and are going up. Could be 10% more by next year. You may have to compromise on what you want for your budget so you don't get priced out.

Contact some EA's to notify as soon as stuff comes on as things sell before they even reach RM especially well priced probate stuff.

The people attending have to pay? OR that's what it's costing the parents?

Isaac went to a birthday party last weekend aboard HMS Belfast. GOK what that cost the proud parents.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
