Why would anyone put the shower on and walk away? I may stand outside for 10 seconds while the water gets hot, but I would never switch the water on and leave the room. And I don't have a water meter.

Mine takes a lot longer than 10s to get hot, so I do often end up leaving it. I do have one of these, though:

My siblings are, too, but I don't find it particularly annoying. I rather like them, all 3 of them!

Mine are lovely too, and all four of us get on just fine, and my dad (and my mum too until she died). There are dramas in the family, but they relate to in-laws, cousins, and so on, a step or two away from our nuclear blood-related little lot.

Corner plot, the opposite corner has already done something similar but they have an extra 10 feet of plot width on the primary road to play with. I'm thinking a 38x20(downstairs)/15 upstairs 3 bed with the single storey downstairs protruding at the front would leave a garden of about 40 wide x 20 deep. The site lines between the new property rear windows and the existing neighbour rear windows (at 45 degrees) might be a stopper though.

Don't bank on being able to do something just because the opposite plot has done so. I got turned down for an extension I wanted to do to a house that I ended up not buying. It would have made it match the one opposite, which had already been extended in the way I wanted to, but the planners just said that it was against today's rules, and that the one opposite had been done ages ago, when the rules were different.

Much happier with the house I've got, anyway. :D

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    I hope Lydia sees this...

I am trying to reply but still having hotmail problems. It really is too infuriating!

I will reply tomorrow when I have freshLy switched on and logged in, that is when it is most compliant.

Yes, Lydia has seen this. Thank you. No hurry. Sympathy with your hotmail problems. :)

My new thermostatic shower has now been installed. DS tells me he deliberately flushed the loo while I was in it this morning to see if I would notice. I didn't. :)

Viva, is it you that likes sainsburies for clothes? Dh just came back from sainsburies with a really pretty summer dress for me and a pair of shoes :).

I did, but I didn't see anything in their winter range that I liked. I haven't really looked through their new season stuff yet. I have bought several pairs of linen trousers and lightweight tops because they look smart enough for work and are cheap. They used to do some really comfy shoes too, but last season they'd all been replaced by plastic ones that weren't very nice. I'm hoping they've got their standards back again.

Re Lydia's comment on jeans, it is one of the places that I can get them to fit too. I had a really lovely pair but I bent over on holiday after I'd packed all my dirty laundry, gave my case a really good shove to get everything in, and in the exertion they split:o. I had twenty minutes to dig out some unwashed, creased, smelly ones that I could sit in for the next 15 hours while looking like a bag lady. Never again!

Well, he's been subjected to the scientific method from a very early age. I remember doing a controlled test of two different nappy rash creams, consistently over several days putting cream A on the left side and cream B on the right side of his poor sore little bum. This seemed to me to be the obvious way to find out which was most effective for him, but other mothers seemed to feel it was eccentricly boffin-like of me. :rotfl:

If asked now, he says his favourite subjects are ICT, maths, science and drama, and maybe also food. It's interesting seeing how he's turning out academically, and I'm trying hard to be encouraging without pushing him to be like me, or guessing too early what he'll choose to do in the future. I'm quite sure he's not going to be a linguist, though. You should hear his views on French!!

  • I've been doing that with my eyes. I bought an eye cream that is supposed to stop me looking 35 and make me look about 3 months old (apparently) and for the past month, been applying it to one eye, and leaving the other one alone.

They look identical, to me. So I still look 35, which doesn't actually bother me at all, I don't know why I paid £ludicrous in the first place.

We're short of all of those - my parents have a brother each, but neither has children, so the 4 of us were the only grandchildren on either side. I don't, therefore, have any first cousins. Dearly beloved didn't either, when we got together, but when Isaac was 3, his uncle (then aged about 52) and his wife (not much younger) had twins via IVF, so OH does have cousins now, albeit younger than his own son.

Isaac doesn't have any cousins yet; my sisters and Bruv are all childless, and so is OH's brother.

My darling Mama was saying at CHristmas that, with 4 children, she'd thought she might have more than 1 grandchild by now (my sisters are nearly 33 and nearly 29, and my brother's 27). I told her I'd done my bit, she should harrass the others.

You are not responsible for him settling his tax liability and you don't need to worry whether he is going to obey the law you only need to make sure you do. Not sure how you are structuring the sale but you can quite legitimately pay for a property with a suitcase of cash if you want to. I assume you don't want to though - if you have a solicitor acting for you on the sale suggest that you use the solicitor as an excuse. "My solicitor says I have to pay all the money to him and he will arrange the transfer of completion monies I don't really understand it you'll have to speak to my solicitor directly".

....yup, dump this one on the sols. His CGT liability is not our problemo.

The polite answer, at his level of understanding, is that you are worried about the CGT you will incur when you eventually sell, so you need the recorded price to be as high as possible.

Aha, I like that one Silvercar :)

I will quote the other replies also.
