Hung washing outside for the first time this year today. Didn't get it fully dry, as the rain came, but it was pretty much done. A symbolic victory methinks!
1st league bowls match of the season. Nice to have that back.
Planning to be in the garden tomorrow. Planting must begin! Apparently, the current forecasts suggest it could get to 17/18 degrees next weekend!
1 day to the concert...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
fc, I'd say to the seller "I'm worried about the potential implications of future allegations of fraud from the HMRC. As a result of these concerns, are you willing to either:
a) sign this document to cover our legal fees should any arise as a result of your insistence on this?
b) reduce the fees by £20k?
More serious answer would be "my legal advisers have advised me that the action you want to take is illegal/fraud. Therefore I must insist we carry out the transaction lawfully".It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

....OH said something similar.
Just chatted about it 5 mins ago and we'll just say to do it via his solicitor and ours.....obviously our sol is no way going to enable him to have part of the sale in 'cash in a sack' so we'll leave it up to the sols to give him the news0 -
I am not sure if this was a potential date or just a friend...and I will have to wait and see what if anything she tells me. But I am interested.lostinrates wrote: »Of all the exciting things a youngish married couple could be doing on a Saturday night, dh and I just cleaned our bedroom carpet.
Not before time.....both awed and revolted by the colour of the water coming out of the carpet cleaner.
Amazing though. Tomorrow the sitting room and hallway. The hallway will be vile, vile.
WE are working through the house replacing the carpets with tiles or wood floor, I think we may end up leaving the stairs and landing (unless I win the lottery and get a glass staircase) as carpet but that will be all - no pets but I still can't see carpets as hygienic. Some of you guys are going through difficult times.
I do hope its okay to post classic amusement from another site. If not it will no doubt get deleted.
Just feel sorry for the lady who scalded her hand at 1.24m on this vid.

michaels, I thought planners were generally reluctant to allow back garden developments.
Corner plot, the opposite corner has already done something similar but they have an extra 10 feet of plot width on the primary road to play with. I'm thinking a 38x20(downstairs)/15 upstairs 3 bed with the single storey downstairs protruding at the front would leave a garden of about 40 wide x 20 deep. The site lines between the new property rear windows and the existing neighbour rear windows (at 45 degrees) might be a stopper though.

It's a hard one to call but if he won't listen and wants to go ahead then there is nothing you can do but be ready to help with any future fallout/problemns that come from this decision. The help would be for the kids though...how old are they?
We have been 'assisting' someone on OH's side of the family recently and 99% of the problems are from her own bad judgement/decisions/actions that she was advised about by all at the time. I am being very supportive and not judgementalin public but in my head, well, some of it winds me up a bit I confess.
Today we have a 2nd room plastered.....yay(!).
Tomorrow we buy some tiles for the new bathroom downstairs.
Our lounge looks like the inside of someones garage (but bigger) and it's really getting me down now.
.....and the vendor of Margate called up to find out what we are going to do about his 'cash' as he doesn't want to pay his CGT.
OH doesn't want to get involved in any conversation with him about it at all (plus no way are we going to get involved in defrauding hmrc ) but it's difficult so he said the wrong thing; 'oh...um...I'll see what I can do'' ....doh.
Don't know what to say to him when he asks again without it scuppering the sale. What would the NP's do?
You are not responsible for him settling his tax liability and you don't need to worry whether he is going to obey the law you only need to make sure you do. Not sure how you are structuring the sale but you can quite legitimately pay for a property with a suitcase of cash if you want to. I assume you don't want to though - if you have a solicitor acting for you on the sale suggest that you use the solicitor as an excuse. "My solicitor says I have to pay all the money to him and he will arrange the transfer of completion monies I don't really understand it you'll have to speak to my solicitor directly".0 -
My daughter came home with Greek-style yoghurt, so I asked her whether that meant that Angela Merkel had paid for it.
DW then said that I shouldn't give up the day job, and I was more deflated than the Greek economy.
I literally thanked this twice, because I accidentally hit 'remove your thanks' whilst sniggering in a silly way.0 -
About a year ago we looked at a nice looking 'arts and crafts' style semi on what is a very nice (but not the best) road - it was a total wreck and on for 525 and we looked thinking if you could buy for 500 then there was a tidy profit to be made...
...well the other half of the semi is now for sale so Rightmove kindly showed what nearby properties had sold for and the one we looked at (offers aeound 525) had sold for 620...so the moral is I was able to spot a bargain price but obviously I wasn't the only one.
Now there is a house nearby for 575 - it has a small ground floor extension but I reckon if you knocked that down and played your cards right with the planners you might be able to fit a 3/4 bed detached on the garden leaving you with a house worth 450-500 and a second house worth 450-500 as well for about 200 outlay on top of the 575 purchase price - sadly though I haven't got the capital to take it on - anyone want to come in on the investment with me?
Doozer if you look in remind me to paste you a link as I would value your thoughts.
I will lend you the money at 7% apr as long as you agree to take out my PPI. The premiums are very competitive I assure you.0 -
Fascinating (to me) fact alert!
When they designed the A380 apparently they built an algorithm that landed the plane perfectly every time. It turned out to be a terrible idea as it meant that the plane landed on the same spot every time and damaged the runway!
They put a randomizer in so it lands on a slightly different spot each time.0 -

That is actually quite interesting, and actually makes a lot of sense. I remember seeing on a certain motor programme by the BBC a few years ago, that 30 seconds of thrust would rip up the runway, and this would probably be similar to potholes, which I've personally recommended the Tescos people to the council for.
I suppose it goes a little but like the office car park though, although this is controlled by humans; a slightly different part is used each time, so we don't rip up the road when we turn it into a racetrack
In other news, I'm back down to Nordschleife on Tues morning, as I have a slight urge to stretch my legs, and can't do it legally in the UK.
