It was only later that I wondered if he'd actually managed to drink his tea. Felt a bit mean, given how cold it was out there!
Apologise next time and say you had meant to offer him another cup, and not to worry about it if any mugs break as you have lots and are giving him the expendable ones(maybe you could ask him whether he needs any as you have spares...)
Have you had a look at the Kon Mari thread? You might find it helpful - I know a number of the others on this thread have.0 -
Decorations are going back in the loft today. Ironically, it's the tidiest 'room' in the house. I realised that I had put an enormous amount of junk in there years ago, just to get it out of the way.
I'm just putting decorations up there for now, on the basis that if anything else goes up there it's not really needed and should be out of the house altogether.
If it was more easily accessible I would put out of season stuff up there but it's a pain to get in so I only go in it when my son is here - or rather, he goes in and I hand stuff up to him!
Going back to mugs, I was given two for Xmas. They were very nice but my heart sank, which sounds really ungrateful! They used to be one item I kept buying and I have loads.
I've given quite a few away but still have a drawer full and more besides. I think they breed!3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
If you're reluctant to donate the mugs, use them for making presents - a mug filled with chocolates or really nice hot chocolate and some marshmallows, or maybe with a box of herbal tea might come in handy. I used to do this for colleagues, and if they didn't want to take the mugs home they always came in handy in the office. I also took excess glasses in as we always seemed to be short...
Keep the mugs you like, and if anyone asks about what happened to the mug they gave you... the gardener broke it0 -
our cash 4 clothes has closed - so sad! It was lovely to get something for my stuff even if it wasn't much.....First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0

Mugs could be donated to the kitchens that serve the homeless.. they are usually on a rapid turnover.. that way they are being put to good use and helping people.. I gave mine to DS1 when he got his house.. I have a huge cupboard full again.. I need to bounce a few more!
I'm a dish down.. it had a big crack across the middle so I deliberately broke it so I could put it in the bin.. cracks and chips in crockery are just breeding grounds for bacteria so it needed to go!
the cash for clothes here shut ages ago.. I've found bagging stuff in sizes it is possible to sell them on facebook selling groups. and new stuff I fling at ebay. If they are vintage fabric unpick them and iron and list as vintage fabric rather than an actual garment.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

I did donate some mugs to the food bank when I used to volunteer there.
I always bin mugs and other crockery when they get chipped, for the reasons you describe. I was gutted today when I realised that one of my cat's bowls, which was new at Christmas, has a chip in it. I knew buying pottery ones was asking for trouble!3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
Did another drop off at the charity shop. They gave ma a Gift Aid form to fill in. I told them I would drop it off next time I was passing.
Realised a couple of minutes later that I'm no longer a tax payer, due to being a very poorly paid employee of the same charity :eek:3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
I've filled 4 binbags to leave
... flingage!!

I've filled 7 sacks for the charity shop with probably another 12 to go. 5 bags to charity bin in the library, 5 more for the church and various church members with possibly one or two sacks more of 'raffle or tombola prizes.
Given away a couch, dining table and six chairs and filled every available bin.
Unfortunately this is as a result of down-sizing my mother and her partner into a bungalow and as I have barely seen my house this week, it looks more like a tip than ever.
Timing wasn't of my choosing - I was under the impression that I had talked everyone into waiting until the improvements and safety measures were in place. It has been exhausting and at times chaotic - in particular one of the partner's sons worked very hard but frequently messed up things that other people had already sorted. Just this afternoon we have sent a carload of stuff back to the old house as it is destined for the charity shop or bin. Still quite a lot to sort but we are winning.
Will do mine next month - even the things that were sorted need doing again. Where I have pulled out threads and materials for various jobs, the ones left all need to go back into their respective boxes.
On the bright side the 'up for sale' house completed, I left behind half the shed contents (they are fine with it), I am debt free, mortgage free and I breathe a sigh of relief every time I wake up thinking "I have to do such and such at 321.." and then realise it is no longer my problem. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
 GRRRRR!!!
In the past couple of days, I have parted with 7 bin-bags of fabric, and 2 of other craft stuff like yarn, patterns etc.. But it should have been 9...
I buy in job-lots of fabric etc. from a local charity shop which has a very tiny stockroom and not much floor-space. I know now that I have to "turn it over" as quickly as possible, so I sort out what I know I can sell, then Freecycle the rest. I picked up a lot on Wednesday, sorted it yesterday morning and offered it yesterday lunchtime; by tea-time most of it had gone! But I had more respondents than fabric to give away, so I bit the bullet, said "yes" to everyone, and dived into my own stash to make up the amount. One person said she couldn't come until this afternoon, but please please please...
So I spent half of this morning sorting out two more bin-bags for her, instead of getting ready for tomorrow's market, even making up my mind to part with fabric from half-finished projects that got abandoned when I had to move the sewing bench again. And waited in, and in... I hadn't checked my mail after about 11am, and needless to say, when I looked again at 3pm, there was a message saying, I'm sick, I can't come today. Normally I'd be sympathetic & keep it until they're better, but then I recognised the name. Last time, her car broke down at the last minute. The time before, her boyfriend went out unexpectedly & left her with the kids. I used to keep a list of the ones who do this regularly; I think I'd better reinstate it! Usually they're car-boot traders who've had a better offer.
It's soooooo hard to make up your mind to part with something that really does have value, to you anyway, then have it thrown back in your face!
Rant over - at least I've cleared some of it, and all the stuff that came in this week! And I will keep the rest bin-bagged up, and offer it again next week. Hopefully more "junk" (OH's pet word for my stock) will go at the market tomorrow, but as that came out of my stock-shed, it won't make any difference to the house. Sigh...:sad:Angie - GC Sept 25: £226.44/£450: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0
