  • I still have at least a van-load to go before I can face Christmas! But the Mother situation is beginning to get clearer; she'll be coming out of hospital early next week & will probably be going into a residential home over Christmas to convalesce. She may choose to stay there, as it seems she'll always be subject to seizures although they are mostly controlled by medication now, and although in theory she'd be capable of living independently, the thought is terrifying her. She's adamant we shouldn't move, so I can relax on that front, and just need to impose some kind of sensible order on the house. Although there is the question of what will happen to all the much-loved family heirlooms, if Mum wants to sell up...

Not so easy for Caterina though! Wishing you {{courage}} and an easy hunt for your next home...

Thread has been very quiet as I'm sure you've all been very busy. Just popping in to wish you all well in 2016 x

Happy New Year to everyone from me, too!

Things are a mess all around, as DD1 came back from Uni. She is moving house again, so went through all her stuff, now reduced by 1 box as she will be taking an extra suitcase, better than nothing!
It is a strange phenomenon in my house that once something is gone there is less space than before (like in the storage cupboard or to my dismay even in the freezer!). I really don't understand how this is possible as I think of myself a a reasonable stacker but maybe mum had done it before me, lol.

Well, I need to get some more stuff gone.. My daughters school trips this year are already in excess of £600 and I have 2 jobs on the house coming in at £200 to get done ASAP..

    Must ebay house contents!!!!

I'm starting with the boxes of Christmas presents put by for next Christmas and the stuff already earmarked for selling.. ebay is going to be well and truly hammered this year, I am desperately short of cash and have lots to get paid off and sorted out .. I will have a nice empty house one day!

On a plus the front room is retrieved from under the Christmas stuff and once the boxes delivered today are moved it will be lovely once more.. I need to wash the hall carpet at some point too, it is vile!

Ive started this year positively ;) Christmas decs boxed & neatly away in the loft. Suggested to DH that every time we get up in the lof we bring down something that needs to go - so.......
2 mirrors down - 1 gone on freecycle
    2 small tables - both to DS1
    3 pictures - CS
    2 bags & toiletries bag - CS
Assorted lightbulbs for lights we no longer have! - Freecycle

I'm trying to have a definite exit strategy for 'stuff' but I do need to put some on fleabay and other sites when I can get some time to photograph & describe etc!!

I used to be a regular on here but haven't posted in a long time.

Nothing has changed. I'm still drowning in 'stuff'. Still can't have visitors.

I started working for a charity last year that has a shop that I have to walk past in the days I'm in the office. I try to make sure that I always have a bag of donations in the car ready to drop off. As soon as I've dropped one off I pack another one up ready to go.

I'm in the office on Wednesday so have a bag containing a board game and some DVDs ready to go in.

There is also a couple of charity shops around the corner so I make dropmoffs there.

I'm hoping coming back on here will encourage me to keep going.

  • If you're still donating things then you are making progress noelphobic, even if it seems painfully slow. Slow and steady progress seems to be the most sustainable and it sounds like youre doing exactly that :)

I'm pondering which area to tackle next. I've been on the KM thread and found some of it really helpful, like the mins game. I'm tempted to try that again in maybe February? The idea is to select one thing that can go on day 1, 2 things on day 2 etc. Feb is a short month, I couldn't get past day 15 in November - sometimes its too much but it all helps I guess.

    Hope all are doing well

    KM game?

I've 'decluttered' a letter since my last post - no pun intended!

I'd been sent a letter with a hospital appointment for March. I'd transferred to another hospital so all I needed to do was cancel the appointment.

The letter's been sitting there for weeks but there was an email address on it so I've emailed to cancel and the letter's gone in the recycling.

Tomorrow I'm going to 'declutter' Sky Sports from my package and bank balance.

  • The Kon Marie thread here on the OS board. Its a different approach, based on whether items bring you joy rather then 'should' you keep them. Obviously things like a frying pan or a kettle dont need to be spectacularly joyful in themselves, but if you only keep the best of each, they are easier to use and the tea/coffee/omelette might be joyful and less stressy.
Theres lots more, but thats the underlying message. Works for some, so might be worth trying? I've kept lots of things that sentimental rather than truly 'joy-giving' but I'm happy with the balance.

Yay for decluttering Sky Sports, and the reduced bill is nice too ;)
