  • Folders spoken for! Should be picked up on Friday. And today we went to the Great Swedish Store in the city on The Other Side (of the New Forest) and invested in a new little book/phone shelf for the kitchen; it's really a bathroom thing but it fits in the tiny space available so there it sits! Outside the back door now is an incredibly tatty & wobbly narrow green wicker bookcase, and suddenly my kitchen looks much bigger and much tidier! There's a big bag of recipe books going onto Freecycle ASAP; we have enough books that we DO use, to hang onto ones that we don't, however glossy.

I know there are plenty of recipes on the Web. But I like trying out old recipes, and I remain to be convinced that the Web, and all that makes it possible, will always be available when I want it, so 33cm-worth of vintage recipe books are staying put...

I managed to put all of DD1's clothes into 2 large suitcases (previously 2 bags and 2 boxes) and to reduce her other "stuff" boxes by 2. Not a lot but in a small space it does help for now. I might get a chance to tackle my own, which still is mainly paper stacks and piles....I want to list items to go more regularly, either ebay, gumtree or freecycle, maybe even Amazon books. Nothing I put on before Christmas sold :(

Went through 2 drawers at mum's and brought home a pile of cds, cassettes and dvds which I have taken to the charity bin in the library. started off by saying she wouldn't be needing her exercise videos (she's struggling to get to the toilet and back). Hopefully she and her partner will be moving into a bungalow within the next few weeks (some alterations required first).

Big bag of books picked up earlier, two more items listed on Freecycle and a number of things in the van ready to be dropped off on the next trip to the Tip.

The flipside is, though, that I've had to start restocking, to get some new & interesting stuff onto the stall. Needless to say, there was an item at the car boot this morning that won't be going straight down there, as a) it's in need of a bit of refurb, and b) it will be perfect for one of the summer shows. It's a lovely little puppet theatre, complete with puppets; I do have room for it in my storage shed, and have managed to untangle the puppets, but I won't put it out there until I've finished mending it. So it's been added to the chaotic conservatory... where there are also umpteen musical boxes under repair!

But I have managed to sort out taking the 4th van load of jumble down West; that should happen towards the end of next week. And that will give me the space to continue to repair & refurb some of these treasures, ready for sale in the summer. I have also resolved not to buy any new fabric for my own use, until I've used at least half of what I already have. So far, so good... although it is only 16 days into the year!

:) If they're Pelham puppets, they're quite collectable.

Not Pelham, GQ, sadly; they're small Czechoslovakian ceramic-headed ones with the strings only attached to the hands, but still a lot of fun. We have a big basket of Pelham ones up in the loft, but they're part of my "Granny basket", assuming any of them ever leave home & produce some offspring of their own! They loved them so when they were little; I made a theatre out of an old drawer, and the older boys used to put on shows for the littler ones. Almost as much fun as a large cardboard box...

I've got a collection of 7 1970s and one older Pelham puppet, plus the puppet theatre. Waiting for my brother's kids to be a bit older. Actually, it might be a fun idea for my birthday next year :)

He looked a bit worried when he told me - said the handle came off in his hand.

It was only later that I wondered if he'd actually managed to drink his tea. Felt a bit mean, given how cold it was out there!
