Thanks, Mothernerd - I've calmed down now! And remembered that the other four applicants turned up on time, have sent "thank-you" emails and generally been lovely. And also that one of my own friends sent a plea late last night, which I'd said I could do after the weekend; she can have those two bags instead, and I'll know they've gone to very good use.
Hopefully on Sunday I'll have the time and the energy to tidy up after myself!Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
I've spent all day hand sewing a kitchen curtain for mum's bungalow - the piece wasn't big enough so I had to cut another piece to attach to the top. Several hours of matching checks. Promised to go back on Monday to do more of the 'little jobs' that need doing.
Also need to go back to the hovel - her partner's house - sometime to as I seem to have managed to talk her into parting with more stuff including 5 suitcases (one of the people with cars can take them to the charity shop).
Over the weekend I am going to make an attempt on my own kitchen. It needs deep cleaning, everything sorting again and most of all I need to put up shelves under the stairs - Wilko have shelf supports which match my original brackets (first lot was bought when DS1 was six months old and he's 31 in March). As the brackets have been in the shed at the other house for the past 8 years they need brushing with a wire brush, wiping clean and painting with hammerite. After that it's simple as the wooden struts are still attached to the wall under the stairs and the screw holes should match.
Shelf runs were originally used in the front room and in various locations but most recently the remaining bits were used under the stairs. Just hope my feet and ankles want to move in the morning. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
Good morning, all! I've not been doing too badly over the last 2 weeks. We have stacked DD1's boxes and cases in OH's bedroom (he offered!) so at least I can now get to my own stuff. I've also started to declutter the klitchen firstly of mould on the walls, so will paint the walls bit by bit in mould repellent paint.at the same time I'll go through all those jars and tins on the shelves. I also got myself a dehydrator to tackle the moisture in some corners.First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0

Good day at the market, and looks like it's been a good week at the Emporium too, so between that & Freecycle, quite a lot of space has been made!Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Happy clearing Thriftwizard.

Brilliant! Not sure when we will finally start on ours, but we've had the paint to redecorate it since last September... Actually it's not easy to schedule a total kitchen revamp, is it? We're not going to be able to cook in there for several days! And as there are several different lots of cooking going on on any given day, and people who MUST eat before football, dancing etc., I think I'll have to set up a sort of camp-kitchen somewhere.Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Going to leave painting until later in the year. When the boys were small I did it every year in October - waited until they were settled after the back to school rush. When they were small and we were very poor I had everything white and went round with a child's bucket (and spade type) of paste, pasting down any bits of wallpaper that had been ripped or come unstuck, painted bits near doors etc where there were lots of fingerprints and bits of skirting board that had been scraped and/ or kicked.
Need to try to make getting round the house easier. I need some jobs doing that I can't do myself including a repair to the DPC (only the front wall ans the alcove and vestibule walls coming off it) which I hope is covered by the guarantee. I'm half expecting them to make all sorts of excuses as to why it isn't their fault but they are a reputable local company so maybe they will just get on with it. But at the moment I can't see where I could put anything to make room even if they will just do that wall again (not digging up the floor etc).
It's nice weather today so I really should put the bins in a line, cover them with a roll of binbags and get all these uprights hammerited. There are other jobs I can do whilst I wait for it to dry. Must buy some potatoes sometime this week as I believe it will get rust spots off the kitchen spotlight fittings (cooking again). My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
I need to paint the ceiling in the front room, the kitchen and make the hallway presentable! Some tiling in the loo.
I need £200 to get the back room to a point I can decorate it.. it needs some building work doing..
And then I need to start on carpets. I need 1 room laminating, vinyl flooring for the loo and carpet for the front and middle rooms.. and then I need to replace the stair carpet which I could get done on the house insurance if it was not quite so much hassle!
I have the plan, what I lack is the money, the time and the space!
several binbags for chazzer which I'mhoping to get rid of this week.. and I just joined a couple more selling FB groups so I can shift some more stuff.. I have to find £125 by the end of the week.. I'm getting there.. slowly!
Ebay is finally picking up again after the christmas destitution so I am getting stuff moved on..
