dragonette wrote: »The Kon Marie thread here on the OS board. Its a different approach, based on whether items bring you joy rather then 'should' you keep them. Obviously things like a frying pan or a kettle dont need to be spectacularly joyful in themselves, but if you only keep the best of each, they are easier to use and the tea/coffee/omelette might be joyful and less stressy.
Theres lots more, but thats the underlying message. Works for some, so might be worth trying? I've kept lots of things that sentimental rather than truly 'joy-giving' but I'm happy with the balance.
Yay for decluttering Sky Sports, and the reduced bill is nice too
Sky Sports was for my son. He was supposedly paying for it but very rarely did.
He moved out years ago but was still watching it on his computer until recently. I never ever watch it!
I have also decided that tomorrow I will make phone calls to close 2 accounts with very low balances and earning very low interest rates. I'm also going to change an appointment I've been sent for a mammogram.
None of this is going to declutter my house but it will help to de-stress and declutter my mind!3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
I'm so glad it's not just me....love the support on here!
DD1 has left to her new place at Uni but she brought back several cases and boxes for us to store as she doesn't have storage. Nor do we! And in May she will be back with ALL her stuff, I'm already panicking....
I also have a job working from home until Easter and won't have as much time as usual to deal with the overwhelm in this house. Small steps. I will declutter the new phones I bought as a treat for myself as their modern functions throw our broadband out each time they are touched. Old phones and nuisance calls it is then so the new ones go back and a bit of money back in, too.First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -
I've just been up in the spare room and 'found' an eye mask, a make up bag, 2 sets of luggage scales and a cuddly toy containing a wheat bag that can be microwaved.
Most of the above have never been used and are still in their original packaging.
I will keep one set of luggage scales (although I've a sneaking suspicion there may be another one somewhere.)

I haven't been on for a while as my laptop was poorly. I have decluttered loads including one house - the sale completed last Friday. However the house is a mess as the previous weekend I had to decant the contents of a 12' x 8' shed and anything that needs to stay dry is inside.
Christmas was a mixture of very quiet and frantic. DS3 went to his gf's parents the Monday before Christmas and with no laptop (no tv, no games, no forum) I mostly slept and read and ate what I wanted.
However the Sunday after Christmas mum phoned as she was too ill to open a can of soup. Three days and two nights (one on a reclining chair with a flashing tree next to my head) of handing out soup sandwiches and pills and trying to make mum's partner understand that she was ill.
I have paid for mum's bungalow - after weeks of telling/ asking/ pleading with her not to go through with a hair-brained scheme of borrowing money from her partner and two of his sons the solicitors and banks agreed with me and the money went straight from my solicitor's account to her solicitor's. Mum thinks she is not causing trouble for anyone but ends up causing chaos. I offered to do her cards and presents 6, 4 and 2 weeks before Christmas but she kept saying she was okay. Cue frantic wrapping on 23rd December followed by delivering them in my brother's camper van between 11pm and midnight.

I'm still in possession of that 4th van-load of kipple and excess stock! Mum is now back at home & seems to be doing well, but we're still looking at alternatives for her. And DS3 decided to swap himself back into the small bedroom, which means that I will once again have some space to make stuff to sell! The chaos resulting from that move is already beginning to fall into place; there's lots of fabric etc. still to be sold on, but that's stock and beginning to seem rather necessary as I'm starting to get low. Once I get that van-load down to my friend's, I will be able to see the wood for the trees at long last.
Probably shouldn't have bought two rather fine Oriental rugs today though... But they were an absolute steal, and a very good investment!Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
I've lost weight and a lot of clothes no longer fit.
Christmas Day, I was smartly dressed for dinner at my brother's flat and my smart/going out/interview black trousers were falling down.
They were part of the load of stuff that went out the door to Sense today.
Scarves that suited coats that have long gone, plastic carrier bags, tops, t-shirts jeans, trousers, CDs that started life on the front of magazines and are now doing the charity shop rounds, a shopping bag all gone.
I've got a bin bag full of rags that have to go tomorrow.
It's too heavy, so I'll have to use the shopping trolley.... Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
I took a box of mugs to the charity shop next door to where I was working today and they didn't want them! Luckily there's another charity shop further along the road and they did.
I've got a small and a large bag to take in tomorrow to the shop between the car park and my office.
I had planned to take a load of CDs in. However, when I checked the cases I discovered that most of them were empty! I vaguely recall seeing a large red wallet with lots of CDs in sans cases, which I used to keep in the car. Hopefully I will come across it and can reunite and donate them.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
I've dropped a load of warm clothes into the Salvation Army bin today, and taken a "dead" computer desk to the Tip. I feel a bit guilty about that as it was OK & could have been Freecycled until it got stuck outside the back door & got rained on... but anyway, it's gone now. I also Freecycled a big bag of posh padded satin-covered hangers, which aren't full-width and are therefore useless for displaying vintage clothing, and about 50 unused envelope-style card folders I picked up for OH some time ago, that he hasn't (and won't) use for his extensive football programme collection.
Onwards & upwards! I have some paperwork to do this evening and I'm out all day tomorrow, so shan't have a chance to do any more until Thursday.Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
DS3 is giving three items of clothing to a friend so spent last night repairing a tear in a full length cord coat as he leaves today. Also gave mum a new tin last week but said she had to bin three old ones (saved for cakes for the Church fair twice a year, but she can't do cakes any more)My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0

Dropped 2 bags of clothes and odds and ends at the charity shop. Passing that way again tomorrow so had a quick look in the wardrobe but have 'only' managed to find one pair of trousers to donate.
Taking them in anyway. Brand new and still got label on. Been there forever so extremely unlikely I will ever wear them.
Bonus is that I came across my favourite 'house' cardie.3 stone down, 3 more to go0
