A Happy New Year to you all!
Today I will tackle the boxes and bags with wrapping paper, bags and Christmas cards. Each year I seem to accumulate more, so time to sort and chuck! I hate waste but what's the point of keeping it....?First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -
:j:j:j Success! DH got the two old TV's down from the loft to go to the tip & 'while you are up there darling' 2 old speakers, VHS Player/recorder, Turntable & CD player!
The TV's are going straight to the tip when they open but I've had a look on fleabay & might be able to get a little bit of dosh for the other items - I'll have a go. Anyway, one way or another they are out!
Also returned today a fireguard and stairgate that a very kind lady loaned me for my visitors. Car booster seat returned to another kind lady & car seat returned to lovely neighbour!!
Just decluttering the Christmas tree now. I bought a box some years ago from Lidl to store the ornaments in - I bless it every year 'cos some of my decorations are over 50 years old & very precious. I've tidied the box & I'm using some tissue from pressy's to wrap the more delicate ones in.
Can't belive how much I'm doing - cant last..hahaSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Silvasava, the right models of turntables, speakers etc. do fetch a bit, sometimes a LOT; hoping yours do too. But if not, please consider giving them away on Freecycle; Music Tech students love them and can use them very creatively; at one stage my eldest had a 70s Pioneer amplifier & record deck plugged into his Mac, his keyboard, various other bits of high-tech kit and a set of 80s speakers, and was the envy of his friends, one of whom now has custody of the "tower" as he doesn't have room for it.Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

I have an ancient iMac to sort out in the next week or so. It no longer starts up, so I have to find an OS to boot it from and then clean and reformat the HD. After which I have to find out whether anyone is likely to want it. I have an ibook that needs similar treatment (although I think it still starts, which will help).0

Thriftwizard - Thanks - fully intended to put the lot on Freecycle but just thought I'd check first......:) I wont be putting them on for megabucks as I just want rid - but anything that doesn't go will be put straight on to Freecycle for someone else to benefit. I didn't know bout the students so that's nice that they can use 'old style' technology!
Christmas tree down & packed away. Decorations secure - blimmin lights not workingWorked on the tree but when I checked before boxing them up some are not working BUT when I was tidying the boxes we keep the decorations in I found a card I'd cut from the original box the lights were in giving all the details -been able to source spare bulbs so I'll put them to one side until the spares come & then I'll get them working & be ready next year (oops sorry - this year!)

Happy new year everyone
I've been AWOL for a while but still motoring on. Marriage has finally broken down for good and I'm hoping to get the house on the market in a month (after another exam and child's birthday) so I really need to crack on with getting the place ready to go. The possibility of being free is spurring me on to be honest.
I've moved a few small personal items (that he will probably steal or destroy if he finds them) into my office. Luckily I'm alone at the moment although I am getting a new boss shortly. For now, until I have my own place its the safest place for them.
I'm also looking into getting a small storage facility for the short term - knowing how expensive they get after about 2 months and I'm in debt already so don't want to spend more money than I have to. Trying to make a house look 'minimalist' when you're a hoarder is very hard as we all know!"Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it."0 -
Happy happy happy! Finally managed to get to my stalls & "declutter" a huge pile of books, a lovely pine cabinet that I simply have no space for, and a big 1950s mirror. Every little helps... there are more books waiting to be priced, and several bags of clothing in the porch yet to go, but just to have finally made a start after the festive hiatus has improved my state of mind no end. Stuff will "drain" away now.
But I think I will have to Freecycle a fair bit more craft stuff. I'm determined not to have more than will fit in the space I've allotted to it, no matter how useful it might be at some unspecified time in the future. There will be some squawking, but I'm prepared...Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Catriona - plenty of support for you round here in more ways than one. Is there anyone who could spare some space in a garage or spare room for you for a small fee?
Defunct electrical items gone to tip this morning - very nice 'young man' helped to unload for me - so big smile for him & a thank you.
Delivered 3 bags to CS - not even a thank you - grrrr. Shan't be supporting them any more. There's plenty of others who are grateful. I don't need them to gush but a nice thank you does go a long way.
Found a couple of spare bulbs for the Chrismas lights so I'll get them sorted & order some spares for Christmas coming.....oooh, can't believe I said that, I'll go & wash my mouth outSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
