Brighton belle....Was that the one from lake***d? Cant remember whether it was you who originally posted about it but whoever did put the link. Thats when i fell in love with the notion of steam cleaners and have been dreaming of once since. I am concerned that i now have a very fanciful notion of how much they will change my life ( think i may have been watching too much shopping channel:rotfl:!) I really only want it for my floors though...

De-lurking to rave about steam cleaners. Hello all, I've managed to get all rooms clear, now I just need to tackle the outside space. (The stuff for the loft is still piled up in the spare room, but is tucked away in an unused corner.)

Picklepot, I turned the telly on the other morning and it was already tuned to the shopping channel, I normally avoid these at all costs. It was a steam cleaner advert and I succumbed instantly and bought it.

I've been looking out for one for ages and this had all the optional extras. It arrived 2 days later, just in time for my Hubby's surprise party, with a house full of guests.

I steamed the tiles around our cooker in the ignlenook, which I've not been able to get into a state of any kind of clean since we moved in 3 years ago! And I'd tried everything. It used to house an old leaky boiler so the tiles were appalling.

Anyway took the new steam mop with scrubby attachment to them and then now shine up like a new pin, I'm totally hooked! It's so much easier than mop and bucket (which only comes out for puppy emergencies :rotfl:) now.

I do highly recommend them but I would say, do your research and be prepared to spend a bit of cash for a decent one. I can now get the floor clean and dry in about 15mins. My bathroom tiles have come up lovely too, we're in a hard water area so limescale is a big problem.

OMG Pigpen, I bet you swore! Hope the cleanup goes ok!

Catriona, only thing to remember with collection only is they PAY CASH ON COLLECTION,when arranging the collection tell them that they'll need to bring the cash on the day. Glad you've got a bid!

(you could email them before the auction ends and ask if they want to come and view sooner hint hint maybe to buy it that same day that way no final value fees with ebay?);)

If they do and buy it, you can then cancel their bid and end the auction early and no chance of feedback either! :D

Up to you, of course xx

pig pen your children are just gorgeous, painted blue or not! i remember vividly the time my now eldest painted his feet black and ran through the house. at the time the house had a CREAM carpet left by the previous owners. I hated that carpet, they had three kids and a dog and maintained a pristine cream carpet (how???), every blinking stain on it from my lot just seemed to shout - "you are a slattern!" at me and although I initially looked at the devastation with horror it was just the excuse I needed to sling it all and free myself from cream-carpet-slavery.

SJ - I get given clothes for my 2 from 2 very good friends as their children are just older than mine, plus three sets of grandparents, for two sets mine are the youngest, and for the other dd is the only girl to a granny who had only male children so all of granny's dressing up dreams are focused on buying lovely clothes for her. I am very grateful, but it means I end up with mountains of children's clothes and not really necessarily the things they like/need (I really only ever buy pj's for them at christmas and pants/socks).

One of my worst tendencies is not to get the washed clothes put away (I don't iron anything, so it's not that) but I have realised that the stuff in the washing pile IS the stuff they wear so I can cull anything in a drawer/wardrobe without it making any difference to the children.

It IS hard - some of this stuff is lovely, but it can be lovely on another child, and the cs can get some money for it (I can't do ebay sales - I find it too stressful so unless it's a big return item - it's not worth my mental energy).

For once no I didn't!!! I just burst out laughing... I think it was hysteria!

DD2 sorting the kitchen now, the 3 girls sorting front room and the boys sent shopping. OH bathing trolls and ten going to buy a new unit.. then we need to buy vinyl flooring for the back room, bathroom and loo.. once I know when that will be fitted I can sort the old bath removing seeing as the new one is sitting in the hallway.

spurred on by my very own words I've just put a bin-bag of clothes from my wardrobe (which is full to bursting but contains very few clothes I wear) by the door for the cs. I've started easy with the ones that don't fit AND I don't like - I was keeping them (they were given to me) for when I lose weight, but if (when) I lose weight, I blinking deserve to get some cheap clothes that I like rather than wear one's that I don't and in the meantime, maybe they'll be to someone else's taste (can't think who, as they were passed to two other people who thought "ermm, no" before being given to me, but vive la difference!).

also want to celebrate saying no to my mum this weekend. For visiting her she had got in some breakfast mini-boxes and craft things for the kids (as well as cadbury's entire stock of chocolate eggs), none of which they ate, or played with: the offers to take home the breakfasts, craft items, half a slice of ham, gloves that don't fit her and other things were met with a series of "no thank you"'s mostly with good grace, although by the second or third "are you sure?" I was getting a little testy.

It's done out of love, and she thinks I am saying no to be polite, but actually it has always been the "yes" that has been polite. Both of my parents are uber-organised with pristine houses. My brother and I aren't and I think some of the reason for this is that we have all their off-loaded carp......

My ex-MIL on being told "no thank you" would put it in a bag anyway and then try to slip it in the car as we left. Because we really did want it but were being polite.

The times my ex would stop, jump out of the car again and march up the path to put it back in her porch. And by golly did she acquire some odd stuff that we were destined to have!

    She never learned. :(
  • Delurking to announce that the room of doom at my mum's house now officially has a floor! Brother and OH had to do the chucking, I started wanting to keep things so left them to it. 4 car loads to the tip, 1 to the charity shop, 1 giant pile of stamps/albums for the stamp man. And there is still stuff needing reviewed but can see to do it.
    Phew.

Then got home with some stuff and nearly cried as there are so many things that don't have somewhere to put them and it's all sitting on mah table of doom. So easy to put things away and be tidy with things that have homes, so upsetting to keep shuffling the other carp around.

    Can declutter the sweets though....

I nearly got my steam cleaner out, but fortunately the moment passed, lol.
