It has seriously affected my ability to get things doen for the last 2 weeks but now Im back on track. 2 parcels packed , just need cards putting in, one blanket being made up ready to post too so thats 3 bags full of crafty goodness ready(almost) to go. Bins are a bit full too and 2 binbags to stuff in there too. 3 bags of recycling put out too. Bit of a way to go but well on my way xxxClearing the junk to travel light

And breathe........
The HO was very pleasant; it helped that she couldn't see what the problem was; I was honest and said there had been a problem, but I was already motivated to sort it before the home check was carried out.
I've agreed to an Action Plan as it was what I was planning on doing anyway; and the HO has asked me to consider working with the HA as a volunteer on a befriender scheme to help people who are struggling to tackle their 'stuff'. She has also offered to supply boxes for taking items to the charity shop, and files for storing paperwork.
I think I did ok; and the best bit?....... showing her around the property and throwing doors open with gay abandon and not a cringe of embarrassment in sight.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, thank you, thank you, thank you lovely ladies, I couldn't have done it without you xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Do you have any time to give to the HA as a befriender? Don't feel guilty if you don't, but if you do, wow, you will be brilliant at it, I am sure.
I think it sounds like a wonderful scheme, what a forward-thinking, pro-active HA, in that they are prepared to give files and boxes to help to get organised as well.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -

Oh roundtuit, I'm so thrilled and pleased, well done you!
And just remember, we're giving and receiving support but it's you who's actually doing the work and making those changes and all credit to you.
:T ginny, very pleased at your good news, too, that must be a weight off your mind.
I've decluttered some saved broad bean seeds into the ground this afternoon and will hopefully be planting onion sets tomorrow. This is the start of year 6 since I got my own extremely-derelict lottie in March 2008. I wasn't a noobie at gardening or even allotmenteering but suddenly having a big area all my own which needed a lot of work was a bit of an overwhelm.
But thanks to the support and the desire to 'account for' my doings on this thread, I did progressively tackle and get rid of the ghastly patch at the top which I'd nicknamed The Rough. After 5 years of cringing every time I saw it. Now I see it and smile happily.
I guess anyone who has opened drawers or cupboards just to admire their emptiness/ tidiness, can imagine my emotion as I see the area-formerly-known-as-The-Rough all turned soil and ready for planting. It's a decluttering thing rather than specifically a gardening thing, I think.
Righty, better rock off into the kitchen and fix that supper. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

oooh lots of positive things today! hurray RT
how wonderful to get an unexpected offer  I do believe positives spiral up and out bringing more positives. more happiness in the world can only be good
Sillyme, when my mental health is on a downward spiral lots of things suffer, and letting go of "stuff" is one - in some ways it's because I don't trust myself to make a decision.
giving to charity is a good thing, even more so if your income is low, please don't feel bad about the gift aid thing.
florence, re the storage room - if you want a storage room for your crafts - that's fine! There's no one right way to live and have our homes organised, just a way for each of that works and doesn't hold us back from what we want to be doing.
What would your ideal home be like - would it have a storage room for crafts? if so, then have one. Mine wouldn't, I used to think I'd like a crafts room, until I thought about how I'd like to live, and that's not shut away in a small room away from the rest of the home, so my craft things are now in the lounge but that's meI also don't want a minimalist home, or a hotel suite (the thing I like about hotels is that someone else does the work not the lack of personally relevant stuff!), but for some those arrangements are what they want. I think it's hard to work out what is rationalising and what is the way we want to live, which is one of the many reasons why coming here is so great

I think that the thing about craft, in whatever form(s) a person practices it, is that it requires tools, and a variety of supplies. Sometimes, a project is finished and there are leftover supplies, or there is an opportunity to buy or otherwise receive supplies at silly prices or for free, and it would be crazy not to.
I guess the questions the crafter needs to ask herself are;
Do I still like doing this particular craft? Have I moved on to another and will I ever want to revist this one?
Can I actually see myself using this yarn/ fabric/ whatever or was it a lapse of my current taste?
Can I still do this craft or has a medical condition interferred with my ability? Is that temporary or permanant?
I grinned in recognition when I first heard the term SABLE applied to crafting supplies; Stash Acquired Beyond Lifetime Expectancy. Ouch, how true that one can be.........:rotfl:
If you're supplies still fit your crafts, and you haven't got 50 years of supplies and 25 years of life expectancy, I would say keep it and use it. After all, most people don't become richer in retirement and if you've already bought the supplies, you have invested in your future leisure and pleasure.Mr F will have to tidy up 'his' garage, though, there's no excusing that.:p
As I sort through my stash - some will go on the bay of E to hopefully make me some pennies.
I am going to a craft show in July - must not buy too much.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

LOL, I imagine my house is smaller than yours then! If it works for you then FWIW I think that's fine - and I completely get the craft thing - ds went back to school today, to a VE party for end of half term (they've been "doing" WWII) and decided he wanted to go as Neville Chamberlain! I was able to cobble together a serviceable waistcoat and cravat from material I had to hand to go with his suit, a peace treaty and a moustache. We craft as a family, as well as on my own, at the drop of a hat, and I wouldn't want to lose that in the name of decluttering, as these activities give us pleasure.
as an aside I also have a window painted black at the moment:rotfl: as ds wanted to do an experiment on how easy/effective different types of "black out" would have been during the war and I was able to put my hand to different thicknesses of black material, black paint and cardboard for him to experiment with. This is the stuff of a happy life for usbut it's horses for courses.

Try selling on Facebook for your area, I just started last year and have sold loads. It costs nothing, you can post photos and get an idea of how much others are selling similar things for and best of all it's local and quick and people just come and take it away often the same day.0

lobbyludd, it sounds a most excellent way to raise children to me, akin to my own upbringing. If I needed foil milk bottle tops, fabric scraps, yarn etc for my school and leisure projects, there was plenty to be had.
I was also taught to rug-make long before I was 10, knit, sew, paint doors, walls, ceilings, effect small repairs to all sorts of things, garden etc.
I would have been very distressed to have been raised in a 'show room' type household were there was nothing to do and everything was to be kept pristine and untouched.
Florenceem, sounds like you're the bestest gran if you can produce those materials at the drop of a hat. If you have the room, why not use it?
I would adore to have a craft room with a space to have my sewing machine set up permanantly and shelves for supplies. Alas, home is a very small one bedroom flat and I have to cut my coat according to my cloth. However, I still have more comfort, and ease not to mention better lighting, than most of humanity for most of history, and look at what wonderful things people have produced!
There's no right or wrong way to organise a home. If I could have my fantasy home, I would attach a flat to a large garden on one side and the public library on the other (24/7 access to the latter, naturally).:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Pick out the best items that will sell for say £10 or more and put them on ebay. Everything else to the charity shop. That's my rule anyway, though easy for me, I hate clutter!0
