I just stood on a stool to get a new box of teabags from the top shelf of the kitchen cupboard and sorted the boxes up there into expiry date order. I had the dates writ large in pen on the ends of the boxes (they have to stand end-outermost in there- space constraints) so could see by a glance which to use next but still had the urge to have them in date order..............
You would love volunteering in a Food Bank then. One of the jobs involves checking the use by/best before dates on items and then writing them on with a large marker pen! PITA when you struggle to find the dates and they are in very small print - Aldi is the worst offender for this.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
I'm well and truly 'hooked' methinks
. I was planning to give myself the 'day off' as a well earned treat for all the hard work I've done over the past few weeks...... but when I went up to the bathroom I found myself taking DS's TV aerial in its box up to his room (it's been part of the kitchen floor stash since June 2013). And while I was going up I thought I might as well take those two pairs of laundered jeans on the back of the sofa and put them away in his room too. :T
I've also listed the people who sent me Christmas cards last year and put the cards in to the recycling bin. Talking of which I've started my Christmas shopping  - ordered a gift for my sister-in-law from the ding dong lady. Well the new 'me' is quite capable of turning out a drawer under my bed in which to stash such items!
Like I said....hooked!!!

I've just discovered that my County library service membership entitles me to look at a huge range of digital magazines online for free.
Mine is County Durham. I logged in to the online library service and navigated from there.
One magazine I sometimes buy is Essentials, this month it has a good article on hoarding.
Anyway no need for me to buy a copy this month, or to dispose of the magazine afterwards.
There are dozens of magazines available for all sorts of hobbies and interests, inc. arts and crafts.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
lobbyludd, it sounds a most excellent way to raise children to me, akin to my own upbringing. If I needed foil milk bottle tops, fabric scraps, yarn etc for my school and leisure projects, there was plenty to be had.
I was also taught to rug-make long before I was 10, knit, sew, paint doors, walls, ceilings, effect small repairs to all sorts of things, garden etc.
I would have been very distressed to have been raised in a 'show room' type household were there was nothing to do and everything was to be kept pristine and untouched.
Florenceem, sounds like you're the bestest gran if you can produce those materials at the drop of a hat. If you have the room, why not use it?
I would adore to have a craft room with a space to have my sewing machine set up permanantly and shelves for supplies. Alas, home is a very small one bedroom flat and I have to cut my coat according to my cloth. However, I still have more comfort, and ease not to mention better lighting, than most of humanity for most of history, and look at what wonderful things people have produced!
There's no right or wrong way to organise a home. If I could have my fantasy home, I would attach a flat to a large garden on one side and the public library on the other (24/7 access to the latter, naturally).:rotfl:Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

We need our own head-shrinker on here.

Various other things drive me spare. I like to use something up and get rid of the container into the recycling or the rubbish if it's non-recyclable. Loads of tubs or jars floating around with just a dreg in them drive me loopy. My drinking glasses have to sit on the glass shelf in the cabinet in size order, too.
I wonder if this is the 'perfectionism' which some of us struggle with, in such a way that if it can't be 'perfect' it can't be done at all?
I'm really trying to move past this in some aspects of my life, such as a 5 or 10 min clean is better than no clean at all, ditto tidying etc. RL doesn't often present 'perfect times' to do certain things, and even if you set time aside to, for example, paint a door, you can bet that something unexpected will pop up and derail you.
Going offline for a few hours to go to the allotment and various other things. Have a good one, and see you laters. GQ xxDecluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

My last post resulted in me pulling open an underbed drawer out of curiosity. I found an unworn (still in the packet) pair of snuggly slipper boots :jthey're not pink and polka dotty but they're still nice. I put a decent pair of socks in my sock drawer and binned two past-it pairs, plus an old bra and a ghastly swimsuit.
Since then I have also binned an inflatable baseball bat and an inflatable hammer  ( random items brought in to the house by DS which he was happy to sling - I know 'cause I texted him and asked :A ) and shredded a wodge of debit card receipts from 2012.
Hooked :rotfl:

Libran. Is this a Virgo 'thing' then?

LOL, I'm capricorn with virgo rising. when I was very little I was obsessively neat - everything in my room had a millimetre perfect place. and then stuff happened and I was precisely the opposite
I am a perfectionist, which seems weird given my presence on this thread. head shrinkers are welcome:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
