    And breathe........
The HO was very pleasant; it helped that she couldn't see what the problem was; I was honest and said there had been a problem, but I was already motivated to sort it before the home check was carried out.
I've agreed to an Action Plan as it was what I was planning on doing anyway; and the HO has asked me to consider working with the HA as a volunteer on a befriender scheme to help people who are struggling to tackle their 'stuff'. She has also offered to supply boxes for taking items to the charity shop, and files for storing paperwork.
I think I did ok; and the best bit?....... showing her around the property and throwing doors open with gay abandon and not a cringe of embarrassment in sight.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, thank you, thank you, thank you lovely ladies, I couldn't have done it without you xxxxxxxxxxxxx

That must have been wonderful, and well deserved too. It sounds as though the HO was really pleased at what you have done so far and really encouraging in the help she offered you.

How do you feel about the volunteering? I'm not sure I could cope with that, but then I've still got a long way to go with putting my own house in order (literally!)

I've got a job interview on Monday and part of the person specification asks for experience of domestic tasks and managing money. I don't think I'm expected to tidy up anyone's house as such, more to give advice and help out a bit (at least I hope so!) I'm good at the theory, not so good with the practice, but I'm hoping that helping someone else will be be easier. I know I find it easier to speak up for other people than for myself.

  • Do you have a friend who e-bays? Maybe you could give her your hoard and ask them to split the profits with you?

I actually enjoy e-baying and have done this for friends and family and have either donated the profits to charities or when we have been skint we have split the profits so everyones a winner!!

:D I like empty cupboards - they have so much potential :rotfl:. When I do put things in cupboards they have to be 'just so', right way round, labels forward, serried ranks etc. When I watched the film 'Sleeping With The Enemy' I couldn't see what was wrong with the guy ..... until he started to try and murder her. If you messed with my cupboards I'd tut and put them right but I would physically harm you! I think I have closet OCD - pun intended and not intended (if that's possible :rotfl:)

I'm exactly the same with cupboards. All my food containers have the labels facing outwards and are sorted like for like as much as possible. Ditto with toiletries My glasses are arranged in order of size.

I find it hard to understand why I can be so messy in so many ways and yet so anal about some things.

:D We need our own head-shrinker on here.

I just stood on a stool to get a new box of teabags from the top shelf of the kitchen cupboard and sorted the boxes up there into expiry date order. I had the dates writ large in pen on the ends of the boxes (they have to stand end-outermost in there- space constraints) so could see by a glance which to use next but still had the urge to have them in date order..............

Various other things drive me spare. I like to use something up and get rid of the container into the recycling or the rubbish if it's non-recyclable. Loads of tubs or jars floating around with just a dreg in them drive me loopy.

:o My drinking glasses have to sit on the glass shelf in the cabinet in size order, too.

I wonder if this is the 'perfectionism' which some of us struggle with, in such a way that if it can't be 'perfect' it can't be done at all?

I'm really trying to move past this in some aspects of my life, such as a 5 or 10 min clean is better than no clean at all, ditto tidying etc. RL doesn't often present 'perfect times' to do certain things, and even if you set time aside to, for example, paint a door, you can bet that something unexpected will pop up and derail you.

Going offline for a few hours to go to the allotment and various other things. Have a good one, and see you laters. GQ xx

It has seriously affected my ability to get things doen for the last 2 weeks but now Im back on track.
    Thank you xx
Glad to hear you are back on track - as I've said before I think living with anxiety is like living in treacle, everything is so much harder to do, that's if you can even motivate yourself to start.
Glad you had good news - I'm thinking we might be at a similar stage in life? Watch out for anaemia it sneaks up on you and thickens the treacle in life!!

:j:beer::D:T Oh that is brilliant! Something to really celebrate.

Do you have any time to give to the HA as a befriender? Don't feel guilty if you don't, but if you do, wow, you will be brilliant at it, I am sure.

I think it sounds like a wonderful scheme, what a forward-thinking, pro-active HA, in that they are prepared to give files and boxes to help to get organised as well.
    Thank you xx
I work full-time and my own home is still a work in progress so it would depend how much commitment was required and what sort of commitment. I've still got too much stuff of my own to go through to want to go through some-one else's too; but I'd be happy to share the tips/ strategies that have helped me. First step would be telling them on about this forum :rotfl:.

Thank you all, its been very stressful wondering if they would find anything. As hubbys carer and being Dds support with our autistic little grandson I couldnt have an operation and I need to be well so now Im all clear its a huge relief.

Roundtuit, I will check up on anaemia and take steps to prevent it.

Its Dgs day today so will spend my time sorting my crafty bits while he plays.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend and feels good about their acheivements so far xxx

Oops - it was a Freudian typo slip methinks noelphobic :rotfl:. I would NOT physically harm you ..... but I'm not saying I would NOT want to. :D. To mis-quote the advert: 'touch my cupboards, feel my fork'.
How strange that so may of us have closet OCD! Although the narrator on Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners did recently state that it's now believed that hoarding is or could be a form of OCD!
    Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

There's a book called the DSM - Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - and the new edition, version 5, has listed hoarding as part of the definition of OCD. Hope that helps.
