Thank you dragonette xx:lovethoug
Oh my, I wish I'd taken 'before' pictures, so I could compare them with now. DS's dad has 'sorted' the small bedroom - it looks much more presentable and you can now walk to the window - I've opened the curtains- which means that the radiator is accessible should there be a problem with it. DS's dad had taken sandpaper and a roll of paper home with him - left behind from decorating that room- and two small boxes have been recycled and a small piece of underlay has been binned. There is a tonne of stuff in there, which I will sort one bag/box at a time once the living room and kitchen are to my liking.....and they are well on their way :T
While DS's dad was busy upstairs I removed the Christmas tree from the living room - it's been stood there since before Christmas 2012- decluttered the area under/ around where the tree had been stood; hoovered; and moved my armchair there. Oh my - the living room suddenly looks twice as big. I can't get over it! DS's dad has taken said tree to the skip which he drives past on his way home. I'm a bit sad 'cause it was a nice tree, but decidedly well past it's best, probly nearly as old as DS, damaged and dusty. Gone now.
Every room is fit for purpose GreyQueen - and none of the rooms are claustrophobic like they used to be. There are still 'pockets' of stuff to be sorted in the kitchen and the living room, which is what I'm going to tackle before I start on the 'hoard' stored in the small bedroom and the cupboard under the stairs.
It is no longer a 'hope no-one knocks at the door' house. I guess I no longer suffer from CHAOS. Still a long journey ahead - but it feels do-able. :T:j
If I'm honest I don't think I believed I could get to where I am now - but I have.... and a lot of it is down to the support you all give. Thank you

you're doing so well RT. Isn't it wonderful when you can breathe in your own home and feel the space, let light in, and start to turn it into somewhere you want to be: your sanctuary. It really is it's own reward, no matter how difficult during the journey.
My slippers are saved, hurrah! as is the shirt I was wearing - the trousers not so much, but they were past their best anyway so into the bin they'll go. I have 4 empty boxes from the loft and a duvet that I was keeping for visitors, but is actually not in a fit enough state that I'd allow a visitor to use it! these and the ironing board are going to the tip this afternoon.
I've used some of the spilt paint to do the first coat on a table that has been on my "project list", when the first coat is dry I'm going to use up the rest of the pot and get rid of it.
thanks WW. I've decided once the paint is dry and I've peeled it off (might be tomorrow) I'm going to properly clean and seal the kitchen floor and move some stuff in there that has been waiting for me to do this (a radiator cover etc). So although not what I would have chosen to happen, hopefully it will spur me on to complete some things.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
Roundtuit, that sounds great
Well done! You have inspired me to take some pics, and hopefully I'll see things in the wrong place or even to go out.
Lobbylud, that sounds like a horrible messbest wishes for your new slippers

Great news on your progress RT.
And good new LL that your incident has at least had some positive outcomes.0 -
thanks dragonette.
at the moment I'm trying to stop the cat investigating too closely and sitting on my hands to stop me testing the sea of white paint to see if it has set (I KNOW it isn't enough time yet) and from drips of old, I know I need to let it set and it will peel off in one clean blob, but if I mess about with it wet it goes into the natural grain of the slate and is a beggar to get out.
why oh why is it, when there are a gazillion jobs that I could be getting on with, the only one I want to do is the one that has to wait?
so I've made a new carrier bag sausage - the old one was tatty, in a fabric I disliked and tied at the bottom with a balloon! (and is now in the bin). need to fereet ds out of bed so that I can get to the tip:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
Thank you xx
I'm still pootling on. I've pulled out 10 decent carrier bags and put them in to a carrier bag to go to the auction lady, who uses them to hand out 'lots' of veg etc when sold. There'll be more - but it's a start.
I've unpacked a bag mostly containing aftershaves and body spray belonging to DS: they are now in his room as are a couple of books removed from the living room.
I've dusted the unit in the living room - cough/splutter/sneeze -and displayed some of DS's trophies on the shelves. It's starting to look like someone lives here!
Hope the paint soon dries lobbyludd. Glad the slippers were salvageable.

It does look spotlessly clean but I don't know how they keep it that way - it's not mine by the way!Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

No sorting done yesterday as I was babysitting.
Today I have tackled some bags of clothes from when I emptied the airing cupboard for workmen to remove the tank. Result - 3 bags for the charity shop - Mr F has taken them down when he walked the dog. :j
A few things for recycling are in the garage waiting for Mr F to dispose of.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

I have a quick question, if anyone could help - why am I terrified of putting a bag of donations into a charity? What do I do, just hand it over? For some reason my mind has frozen at the thought
its not great stuff, some books n cheap jewellery but I'm all a twitter about it

Just walk in to shop and hand over bag - most charity shops are crying out for donations. I have sent 5 big bags full of stuff down to charity shop this week - Mr F carries it there while walking the dog. I can honestly say - I can not even remember most of what I sent down - let alone miss it or regret getting rid of.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45
