That hoarding programme is repeated at ten o'clock tonight on Channel 5+24. Freeview number 55. It's called Can't stop, won't stop hoarding. HTH.

After little success on fleabay this week I have decided to get some cards made up and put them on Etsy all with a sewing theme. My stash of craft stuff needs using instead of sitting there so am fired with enthusiasm and actually getting somewhere.

Bedroom slowly getting clear and have filled a bigbox with rubbish today for the re-cycling so I have a constant flow going out and very little coming in. Im very tired today but still managed to get stuff moving then rewarded myself with a snooze.

I have decided not to watch the hoarding programme as I always see something in their stash that I would love to rescue, usually a wicker basket :rotfl: Boxes are a problem for us arent they? We seem to accumulate them in hope of getting things in order then they sit there accusingly. A lot of hoarders programmes I have watched in the past seem to have huge numbers of empty boxes in amongst the jumble and I always think 'Throw away the bloody boxes woman and then half the pile will be gone' :o

:) Reminds me of a comment a friend made when we stood, appalled, looking into our shared shed; there's a lot of fresh air in there. Meaning it wasn't a solid mass, there was a lot of under-used or unused containers taking up room.

Funny, I never thought about it until I read your post above but you're absolutely right. Every time I see a picture of a hoard there seems to be a lot of boxes strewn among it or floating on the top obviously empty or as good as empty. Heck, if they were broken down flat, the volume would shrink immediately.

Amazing to me how I'd noticed this but hadn't really noticed it until you mentioned it. Wasn't it Don Aslett who quipped on the subject of containers that they should be spelled c-o-n-t-a-i-g-i-o-u-s?:rotfl:The amount of times I have to fight to resist buying containers of all descriptions is shocking.

Very little done since decluttering the most-of-a-shed on Sunday but will aim to get something done towards the end of the week. My hours are longer at the front end of the week and I struggle to do more than the basics, but I will keep on keeping on.

  • That sounds like a good challenge.

Yesterday dropped of a total of 8 bags and 1 box to the charity shop so I am well pleased with myself. So today I hope to have a few more ready to go when I 'm hitting town tomorrow.

Today the living room gets a good dust down and going to get a few loads of washing completed.

    Take care all.

Haven't managed to do anything really before and after work this week so far, except a (fair) bit of housework.

I like that the days are lighter now, am noticing a difference.

I like the idea of a lent challenge but it may just have to be 40 things, not 40 bags for us as most of the big dehoarding is done. I am sure the wardrobes, kitchen cupboards etc could do with another look through though. Actually, maybe we could tackle the understair and airing cupboards a bit at a time - now there's a thought.

I'd have to agree that I have a box 'habit' also, containers in general really. I love plastic boxes with lids, wicker baskets and I have some lovely leatherette boxes.

Which reminds me that when my son moved house and used some of my boxes I was horrified when his girlfriend suggested throwing a big bucket type container with strong rope handles out. In my defence, it is handy to take things to the tip, as are my plastic crate like (and lidless) boxes.

I do have quite a few empty containers at the moment so will definitely not be buying any more. The empty ones will be going up in the spare room for now and I will be getting rid of the cardboard boxes - yes, they might come in handy one day but they're hardly rare.

I use a garden sack like the one you described for keeping all my recycling in. It means only one trip to the container rather than lots of smaller trips.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

I've just virtually had a panic attack at the realisation that I have no idea where said container is. After they moved I took some of their stuff to the tip and may have used this. I wouldn't have thrown it out though but can't see it anywhere.

It's not like I even really need it. If I suddenly do need it I can buy a similar one for not very much money. I get so annoyed when I lose things though - wondering if that's a common trait in hoarders?

No, annoyance isn't a hoarding thing, it's the loss of an item that's fit for purpose. And having to buy another one...

If you're anything like I was...

having to buy another one....IS a hoarding thing.

I need to declutteIr my purse contents as I have expired vouchers in it. (Expired vouchers are good as it means I haven't bought stuff I don't need).
