Hoarding - Springing Ahead

Long yesterday as I got home late and tired. Had to force myself to put the washing on the airer.
I discovered that some of my hoarded stickers are only just usable. They have been kept so long that they are practically glued to the backing. Let that be a warning to you all. I am actually using them on the gift tags and am enjoying both the creating process and the knowledge that they will eventually be out of the house. I decided to use up all my stash as it will be cheaper in the long run to buy new as needed for scrapbooking. I also found some more ribbon that is being used up.
Managed to get the dishwasher on, kitchen and bedroom tidied before I left. Bathroom is in a bit of a state (grouting on the tiles) but I am doing 5 or 10 mins cleaning of that each morning and seeing a steady improvement.
I am so glad we are not flooded. Keep seeing the footage on the news and cant think of much worse than to be handling daily life in cold and soggy conditions. Can't stop bad things happening but it does make me think how much easier daily life is when you have less stuff, especially when unexpected things need dealing with.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Whitewing, you are so right 'there but for the grace of god go I' as they say. Im not particularly religious but when there is something like the terrible floods I always think of that saying.
Made great strides in my bedroom - the floor robe is no more. Clothes all hung or folded in the Ikea ward robe that Ds left us with. Still a good bit to do but am seeing real progress now. More junk disposed of, bin bag almost full and a big wodge of hm cleaning cloths unearthed. Not found anything particularly exciting so far.
went to Hobbycraft last night for something for a friend and all I bought was a tube of glue, came home and threw the old (set solid ) one away :j
Paint rollers pristine or in the bin here - OH very ocd about them so tend to buy cheap but good quality and bin them after use.Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
I was thinking earlier about how in the past I haven't bothered to do things because we would only use them again. I am intending to make some cornflake cakes this evening so when I got the big pan out of the dishwasher I was thinking that I would just leave it out. But I packed it back in the cupboard which took all of 3 seconds. Place looks so much better. Same with making the bed.
I keep laughing at myself as I am sure other people haven't taken decades to learn this!
ETA: I have been putting off doing some personal paperwork, thinking it was going to end up costing me and being tricky to sort out. Made myself do it today and it was really simple and get a £18 refund. It has been hanging over me for ages.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. no sorry WW can't quite get what your saying there: put things away instead of leaving out for next use? No, still doesn't compute.
4 more antiperspirants I'm allergic to binned.
It's bin day tomorrow and it's howling a gale out there. The black bags are out, just recycling and composting to go. having a cuppa first though. Not feeling very motivated tonight.
stupidly took a load of work things to work to shred, forgot and brought them all back home again. doh. Plus the bag they are in has sprung a leak so is shedding confidential stuff. Will have to sort tonight and throw the bag. If I get some clothes put away it will be a bonus.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
Top tip for the paint roller trays (saw it on the 101 household tips post that someone linked a while ago): Line the roller tray with tin foil. When finished the painting job, peel the foil off and chuck! Am going to try this over the top of our current tray as it still has dried on paint from last time.
Haven't managed to bring my mind round to parting with the Hunter wellies yet. Have even been wearing more and proclaiming to DH about how they're so comfy! Definitely over-justifying it... Might be ready one day, but not yet. The new wellies must be getting jealous GQ!
Liking the idea of planting daffs in them rather than chucking as they really are beautiful (to me).0 -
Thanks for the paint tray tip! Another decorating saver is to wrap your brush or roller in cling film between coats.
And I was lucky like that. Lobbyludd. My terracotta pots came from the hardcore/broken bricks skip at the local tip. I came in for a bit of teasing from the blokes that work there because I should have asked first, but the pots were already in the car by then.
Library books by the door just in time this evening, ready to take tomorrow. I might look up Don Aslett.
Have a peaceful evening.0 -
I made my cakes finally. I am counting it as dehoarding as it used up:
a couple of gift tags (one new home and a get well soon for someone else)
the cake cases that were lurking
a plastic container
the syrup
I need to find my glue to do another little job.
DH was a bit fed up today because he feels the days are merging into each other. I don't have that feeling, and I said that I think it's because of the decluttering/crafting side effect. I get to do something other than work or housework. So I have suggested that he starts doing little min bursts of something he wants to achieve/spend more time doing and accept that current lifestyle means that we won't have a whole day to do things.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. I parted with a broken tin opener.. ok it's not much I know but I changed the batteries and it was still dead so I binned it. I have sorted a couple of bits from my cleaning cupboard to fling to my mother.. bottle of stardrops anyone??
I have earmarked my 'vintage' scales to go in the next chazzer box to clear a windowsill space.. and will rid me of a 'bowl' in which to keep kitchen rubble.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Well done, pigpen.
I think Don Aslett had the term 'catch-all' for those receptacles which seem to serve no purpose but to become depositories of misc floating carp which we don't put away/ throw away because we've put them in the fruit bowl or wherever. And thus they have become invisible. He also pointed out that whole rooms can function as 'catch-alls' inc what is humourously-called the spare or guest room in some homes.
Gawd'elp the guest who turns up without a week or more's notice given to the host/ess so they can de-frag the space..........:rotfl:
Decided I shall declutter some of my hair tomorrow before w*rk as I'm on a late and the hairdressing place opens at 08.00. As long as I get my aspidistra in gear, that should be feasible. Feeling a bit of a mop-head atm.
I bought a cake as a whoopsie last night. It comes on a luvverly golden cardboard square. I won't go to hell if I put that in the recycling, will I? As soon as I de-boxed the cake and saw the cardboard for the first time, it was a case of Ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh! Wanna keep that!I wonder if I will one day evolve beyond my love of packaging materials?
Today is working so not much will be done beyond that, although I may finish the zombie novel and add that to the donations bag. Sitting room not looking too bad at all; if you don't own it, you don't have to tidy it up, do you? Such a simple thought, but a revelation.
Keep on trucking, my lovelies, the chazzers need donations and the recycling merchants want (some of) our kipple, too. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I put a ferrero rocher (sp?) container in for recycling as I found myself thinking, what can I make to put in there to give away? It doesn't help that my spatial awareness is terrible. I actually thought some cornflake cakes would fit in it.
I didn't have anything to gift the cakes in, but the joy of a dehoarded kitchen is that I did have a nice plate and a nice bowl available so I could lend them the crockery. We do use it but I know we can manage without them for a few days.
I didn't do much last night or this morning but I did do 15 mins or so of craft stuff. Will probably do an hour or so tonight. It is good this way as it's not feeling like a burden as it can when the project itself is the deadline.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them.
