this offer just came up on an advert on FB. How can they give away laptops and acers as a free gift with the phone. Is this a real deal?

Well technically it's legit. But what they do is increase your line rental to cover the cost of the "free gift".

    Here is an example-

Let's say you take the £17.50 deal from tesco which includes the phone for free, 500 mins, 5000 texts and 1GB data. That equals £420 over 2 years.

Now if you look at the "free gift" list. One of them is a HP laptop. A quick google suggests you can buy the laptop for around £350. But to get the laptop "free" you now have to pay £38pm and then £70 upfront. over 2 years that works out to be £980. So to get the free gift you've now just paid over £560 more.

So in effect it's not a free gift. not at all. Tbh i wouldn't recommend third party websites with these type of deals as sometimes the free gift is out of stock so they don't send it to you, or charge you more for a more expensive gift. Plus it's a hassle to sort out if anything goes wrong.

If you want a mid range to high end phone then go for the S2. (play around with it first in a store)

If you want a low end phone you can get it cheaper (£10pm and under. Or via buying outright for £80 then getting a sim for £5-10pm) but i suggest playing around with them in a store as usually the keyboard can be too small, or they can run slow etc...

I couldn't see any mention of a free laptop on this ad?

You don't need to spend lots of money on expensive "must have" phones or inflexible contracts.

Nice smartphones can be had for almost nothing these days. See for example:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4333851

On PAYG (ie flexible, low risk, low stress) you can get 150 minutes, 150 texts and 400mb free each month.

Not having a super-expensive contract phone means that your phone is not making you a magnet for thieves and muggers, so you don't need expensive insurance (which often excludes theft anyway).

If you pay £0 per month, you can enjoy your smartphone and spend your hard-earned cash on something nice like a holiday.

People also need to be very careful of network coverage especially at home and say, at work for the network they intend taking a contract for.

Imagine walking out of Tesco with your shiny new Galaxy iphone 6.5 or whatever having signed up for 2 years, you get home to find it works on wifi but you can get no calls or texts. £25 a month for 2 years to rent a rather small Tablet instead of a phone!

The guy says he's already on O2. So i presume he's happy with the service and therefore the tesco deal would be fine as they use O2 service.

Plus the reason i've said play around with the phones first, especially the cheaper ones, is because they usually have deal breaking features missing, for example, a small screen and small keyboard isn't great, the phone can be slow or have low internal memory for storage. The camera can be terrible etc...

Its in the box under the phone. You have to scroll down and theres a long list of free gifts. But the contract is only £19 a month with a s11 so I don't know how they do it.

Yes that's why ive always bought cheap phones so as not to attract thieves and muggers.

    I apologise.

Oh and it's not £19pm with a laptop, that's without a laptop. When you select the laptop on the drop down box the price goes up to £38pm. So thats what i mean by it not being a free gift.

Try it, go back to the website and click on the free gift box and scroll down to the laptop and select it and the price magically jumps to £38pm. That's why i said avoid it because it's misleading and expensive.

I just had a look at smartphones in carphone wh but they are dummies so you cant find out how they would suit you. You just see the size really. they didn't have a Samsung 11 but they had the s3 and that's quite big. I suppose that's why people like the mini one to fit in their pocket etc easier

The mini is slightly smaller than the S2 by 0.4cm so it's basically the same size really.

Try and see if you can go to another network store, they should have live demos. I know t-mobile do.
