the phones 4 u lady said this was a good deal. a Samsung ace. £17 monthly. is this a good phone?
NO!!!! The Desire C deal i posted in my first post is much better and £7 a month cheaper. Don't listen to instore shop staff, they will rip you off. Just use the phone store as a research station to try out the phones then come back here and buy the phone online.
Basically the Desire C is slightly better than the Ace, not by much but it's still better. The Ace is what i consider a low end phone. So based on my earlier post you shouldn't be paying more than £15pm. For £17pm you can get the Galaxy S3 Mini which is a much much much better phone.
Also try look for a tariff with at least 500mb data just to be safe. 500mb is the bare minimum i would recommend these days if you plan on using the internet at all on your phone. Like you said, you used 100mb in 2 weeks so thats 250mb minimum you are using a month.0 -
The Desire C is only £10-a-month here (500 mins, 5000 texts, 500MB) plus £20 Quidco cash back: http://shop.tescomobile.com/mobile-phones/pay-monthly/htc/desire+c?deal=78210

Yes I think she was as when I said I would think about it-she said what is there to think about. I did tell her 100mb was too low.
Yes the desire c one seems good.0 -
What do you think of the nokia lumias? or the sony experia?0

Yeh let me tell you, Phones 4 U staff are the worst because they work on commission so they'll tell you anything or give you anything to sign up. Once you sign up customer service goes out the window and they refer you to the network after that. Plus they don't have a returns policy so if you buy something and you change your mind they don't give a flying **** and will just tell you to leave the store as they've already sold you the phone. I'm generalising here but it stands.
I would say the Desire C is a good starter smartphone, especially for the price. Plus tesco do allow you to cap the account so your bill will never be more than £10pm. But i do recommend playing around with the phone or asking a staff member to demo it to you or something. It's all very well me saying it's a good phone but you have to like it and be happy with it first. Know what i mean.
The Sony Xperias are good phones and run the same software as the HTC and Samsung phones. (just looks a bit different) so you can get all the same apps and features. I'd recommend the Sony Xperia J as the closest phone to the HTC Desire C (the J is a bit better). If you can get a good deal on the Xperia J or U then go for that over the Desire C.
Lumia phones are good but they're basic IMO and don't have as many features or apps as the others. So if you just want a simple basic phone it'll do. The best bang for buck is the Lumia 620.0 -

Xperia are a range of phones, some costing 10x more than others. The Xperia Tipo is a lower end one.

My wife recently got a Lumia 800 - £145 sim free from Tesco.
Its her first smartphone, she wanted a Nokia as she is used to nokia's I did try and explain that it would be completely differnet to any Nokia she had before.
Anyway, I'm impressed, its pretty slick, still on 7.5, and she hasn't added any apps, as it does what she needs it to do out the box. It took me 6 months to install an app on my android.
I should add, I'm still using my HTC Wildfire, so it may well not be as fast when comparing it to newer higher spec'd Android devices. I like the screen on the Lumia and I have been impressed with the camera.
What do you want from the phone, what are important features to you, think about these and visit gsmarena, this site lets you compare handsets. Try billmonitor.org, to get an idea of sim only deals / options v's contract phones.0 -
Before you sign up to any prolonged contract with any operator I would strongly advise you to test each operators signal by using a pay as you go sim card for each netowrk for a while, making sure that you get a good signal in the places that you are likely to go.
This may take a while, as it will put the brakes on any impulse buy, but a little time spent researching and testing will save a lot of pain and trouble later on.0 -
