That's the sad thing - how many people (most of which perhaps already in a vulnerable situation) have been duped into £200+ for something they didn't technically agree to?

Yes, it will affect people who are vulnerable, or already in a difficult situation. The irony is that people will sign up to LegalCare for help - and just end up in a worse position.
Anything we can do to prevent them getting payment is all the better.

I'll consider it cladcat6, I'm wary to handing out my personal details on forums!

Worth mentioning - Legalcare have now changed their website to encompass a small disclaimer in the footer. This is new as of last week.

"The LegalCare service is offered on the basis of a 14 day free trial. If you do not notify us that you wish to cancel within the 14 day trial period you will then enter into a 12 month subscription. "

That dodgy hyperlink/poor wording during the sign-up process still exists however.

I swear I have genuine intentions and I'm genuinely in the same trouble as all of you. I understand the forum rules but someone has to sth about it!!!

I noticed that too a few days ago - the screen shots that you provided earlier in this thread don't show this disclaimer. I guess that was added when so many people started refusing to pay....

Just FYI, i told them in no uncertain terms that i would not pay and to take me to court if they were up for it. Its all gone quiet now, no emails and no legal letters have arrived and its been almost 10 days.

I also mentioned they were the subject of much debate, and that everyone was sharing their issues...

I haven't told them yet that I won't pay, I just stated Misrepresentation act 1967 as in terms and conditions they state that they don't actually give any legal advice and no client relationship is formed by that. I found it shocking although they don't seem to back off.
My claim is now passed to Trading Standards through Consumer helpline and supposed to be contacted them by Thursday but there is no guarantee.
I have sent an email about it to BBC Watchdog and hoping that everyone else will as well.

cladcat, your strongest points regarding this are:

    - During the sign-up process LegalCare did not make wholly clear different terms and conditions to the ones listed in the footer of their website. Hence you did not agree to contract under those additional terms and therefore you owe them nothing.

    - LegalCare did not provide a method of cancellation on their website. Having not been able to review their additional terms and conditions, the only option available was to cancel the PayPal subscription within the 14 day period.

In my experience the past few years, Trading Standards have been utterly useless even with the most cast-iron of cases...best of luck though!

Eversir you are right, trading standards are useless, when you have problem they all run away unfortunately.:(

I think the growing number of people getting caught out really highlights the issue here.

The last communication I had from LegalCare was from their CEO Paul Careless in a letter dated 13th April in response to a letter of complaint I sent him - I had got sick of dealing with their rude and threatening customer services.

I sent another letter to Mr Careless on the 26th April, following advice during an initial consultation with a local solictor informing me that LegalCare are unlikely to win or even attempt to take it to the small claims court as they don't have a case. I informed him that I consider my account closed and I haven't heard anything since.

I would be happy to e-mail watchdog too (Edit - Done!)
