Julia - I too have ended up this this position.

I too have contacted BBC Watchdog about 2 weeks ago about LegalCare (not yet had a response).

I too keep getting threatening emails and letters demanding payment, which are getting progressively more threatening.

I can't afford to pay them off, but I'm close to just somehow finding the money and paying up just to get rid of them. The whole thing is just so terribly terribly upsetting. I know that others believe it was clear at sign up where to find the cancellation procedure in the terms and conditions, however somehow I missed them and thought by cancelling via PayPal I was doing the right thing. I did not get a copy of the T&Cs or how to cancel the free trial after signing up, hence my thinking it was ok to cancel via PayPal.

I hear you Julia, and it seems there are far too many of us out there for us all to be at fault.

If anyone has any helpful advice - pay up, or hold out and don't pay, then it would be very much appreciated.....

    bpnodbige & Julia:

I'm point blank refusing to pay and will be taking this all the way through the courts if they decide to pursue. Doesn't faze me in the slightest given all the evidence I can present in front of a judge. Also happy to write to BBC Watchdog.

Saying that, I haven't heard anymore from them so maybe the hardline stance has worked. I gave them final notice that anymore badgering by them or a debt collection agency would be considered harassment. They confirmed receipt of the email and so far haven't bothered me any further. Yet...

    Eversir,

Thanks - please do contact BBC Watchdog if you can - the more of us that contact them, the more likely we can get them named and shamed.

I want to hold out, but I'm afraid it does phase me. I'm not someone who finds it easy to owe money to anyone (be it true that I owe them money or not), so I'm finding it really difficult. I just want them to leave me alone.

When you say you haven't heard any more from them, how long has that been? Have you conducted all your communication with them via email? Or have you also written to/received letters from them?

    Thanks!

Last heard from them on the 26th April. Not a peep since.

All email up to now, haven't had any need to start fighting with the trusty letter just quite yet. It's all logged anyway.

Well do let 'us' know on the forum if they do come back to you and what they say.

If the hard line stance works then it gives me hope that by holding out they will eventually leave me alone.

I really hope Watchdog pick up this story. I think its something well worth reporting - if only to advise people to be careful when ticking 'agree to terms and conditions' boxes. I'm certainly going to be more careful in the future when signing up for things online!

It's not just a case of being careful to ticking 'agree' though - they have a responsibility to make it clear and unambiguous. And they've failed on that aspect!

I agree. The mere fact that so many of us have cancelled in the same way suggests that their T&Cs were not made clear enough. I believe that is evidence enough that they are at fault, not us.

There must be at least a dozen people who have replied to this thread now saying they have ended up in the same position. Makes you wonder how many more people are out there.

    Hello everyone

As I'm new on this forum I just found out that you can't leave your email for others to contact you. I might send an email to moneysavingexpert.com that we are absolutely desperate about it and need to make a list of people affected but this matter.
How else can you all send me your email or contact number?we need to collectively do sth about it?legalcare.co.uk is not a legal advice. Again read terms and conditions!!!!

That's the sad thing - how many people (most of which perhaps already in a vulnerable situation) have been duped into £200+ for something they didn't technically agree to?
