It's actually illegal to have 30mph repeaters
I understand it's s.85 (5), Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984:
'In any proceedings for a contravention of section 81 of this Act, where the proceedings relate to driving on a road provided with such a system of street or carriageway lighting, evidence of the absence of traffic signs displayed in pursuance of this section to indicate that the road is not a restricted road for the purposes of that section shall be evidence that the road is a restricted road for those purposes.'0 -
think you are bug gered as Durham Road becomes a 30 just before the turn into Springwell Road
I was going the other way if you have a look at google map it say 40MPH ................................
If you were going the other way and turned right into Springwell Road, you would still have been in the 30 part of Durham Road. It doesn't become 40 until you are past Springwell Road in that direction.0 -
I live in this area and that road has always been a 30mph road. It has also always been targeted by the police, even before speed cameras. Some 25 years ago, when I was learning to drive, police used to park at either end of the road and calculate the speed cars were doing (Lidl wasnt' there then, it was a pub).
Personally, I wouldn't worry as I would expect that you will be offered the speed awareness course. Which might be good for you as they talk about different speed limits in different areas and how to tell what the limit is.
Good luck.0 -
come on, you knew it was 30, why would you be doing 35 on a road you believed to be 40?0

Speedo overread.
The ticket said 35 they thought they were doing 40.0 -
Never had anything the date i passed my test in 1998
Try to get yourself on the course (I've been on 2 now)
There are far worse things on a driving license than 3 points; I don't think at any point in the last 8 years I've been back in the UK, until last month, have I had a clean license, so don't worry too much
At 3, the insurance probably won't go up at all, it's when you're reaching the 9 barrier that insurance goes through the roof.

It seems to be a common myth that two lanes is automatically a dual carriageway and that this is therefore faster than a 30mph limit
A bit like that myth of overtaking lanes being slow/medium/fast
As the highway code states,"drivers are expected to know what the speed limit is according to the type of road. In built-up areas — defined as roads where there are street lamps spaced not more than 200 yards (183 metres) apart — the speed limit is 30mph for all classes of vehicle, unless signs show that a local limit or a national speed limit applies"0
