what is this "lamp post" thing. Is there such a difference between residential lampposts and motorway lamposts? I'm pretty sure carriageways and motorways are lit up with lamp posts too, albet residential lamp posts will be on the pavement where as motorway lamp posts will be further back.

It doesn't apply to motorways as they are special roads. But on ordinary roads, if there are street lights not more than 200 yards apart, and no repeater signs, the limit is automatically 30.

If the limit is higher and there are street lights, there will be repeater signs showing that limit. Repeater signs are not allowed if the limit is 30.

You would know all about the "lamp post thing" if you did the Driver Awareness Course.

As lampposts are technically on the road, do you drive with blinkers on?

Don't get caught out by lamps on the wooden poles. Some people don't think of these as lamposts and may think the road has a higher speed limit.

So you think that what is at the side of the road, is of no importance to your general awareness of the situation around you as you drive. Interesting.
