It seems to be a common myth that two lanes is automatically a dual carriageway and that this is therefore faster than a 30mph limit
A bit like that myth of overtaking lanes being slow/medium/fast
As the highway code states,"drivers are expected to know what the speed limit is according to the type of road. In built-up areas — defined as roads where there are street lamps spaced not more than 200 yards (183 metres) apart — the speed limit is 30mph for all classes of vehicle, unless signs show that a local limit or a national speed limit applies"
This seems to be the most ignored part of the whole discussion and a compulsory learning from the driving test.
OP, does that road have street lamps?0 -

I'm not the OP but I know this road well. Yes, there are lamposts and it is well know that it is a 30mph road. The speed limit hasn't just changed or anything like that. Its been a 30mph for as long as I can remember. When I was learning to drive 25 years ago it was a 30 then.0 -

everyone gets caught out, everyone speeds at one poin. just haveto be smrt when speeding, do it in familiar roads. law of averages really, you're going to get caught at some point.
I was speeding once, doing 50 at a 40mph road - wizzing along. Then a set of ble lights flashed behind me.. I shat myself.. "oh no 3 points in the first year of driving, im screwed!".
Then I pulled over into the left lane, and the blue light car sped past, it was undercover police in an unmarked vehicle. I guess they were CID and probably have bigger fish to fry.0 -
Since no one else has said it and we have the usual backbiting going on I suggest you get over to www.pepipoo.com and ask there. You should get some more help. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0

what is this "lamp post" thing. Is there such a difference between residential lampposts and motorway lamposts? I'm pretty sure carriageways and motorways are lit up with lamp posts too, albet residential lamp posts will be on the pavement where as motorway lamp posts will be further back.0

It is the distance between them that changes.
Have a look next time you are driving down the different roads and maybe brush up on your Highway Code.... :beer:What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

What motorways do you drive on?
They are usually in the central reservation.0 -
