  • You should be in line for a course if you've not done one in the last three years.

And I have probably got carpeted for telling you this.
If by "carpeted", you mean thanked for giving useful advice then yes, you have.

The 30 limit starts on Durham Road. If you were coming from the A19 then the speed limit is by the church just before the junction to Springwell Road.

They could be quite easily obscured if you were in the centre lane, if they are still there I would have my tape measure on those, especially the right hand one .
    Be happy...;)

The road i was driving before i turned was Durham Road which is 40,the date was 5/3/13 and i received it on 15/3/13

According to Streetview, it changes to 30 about 20 yards before the junction with Springwell Road. I'd go and check the signs are still there, if I were you.

It's actually illegal to have 30mph repeaters on a road like this (street lamps + built up area) as drivers are expected to know that such roads are 30 and using 30mph repeaters would undermine this. That's the theory anyway. You are only allowed to have them at the start of the new speed limit, e.g. at the exit of the 40mph road you left.

If you have a video showing you passing a 40mph sign or repeater and then continuing on this road without ever passing a 30 sign then you have a defence, otherwise best to just bend over and take it. For 35 in a 30 you will probably get offered a speed awareness course which does not put points on your licence.
