  • Another hefty spend at the vets yesterday with the oldest doggie. He hasn't improved since Mondays vets appointment. So the £75 profit has gone, and more! :-( He doesn't like medication, I hid it in cheese (he ate the cheese and spat the tablets on the floor, so I crushed them up, and sprinkled them in the bottom of a yoghurt pot. Will have to think of some way of hiding/disguising them tomorrow?

Oh no, sorry to hear about your doggie. What is wrong with him? We had to fork out for our dog this week, for meds.

Can you put the tablets down his throat, so he has to swallow them? We have to do that, though sometimes I don't put them down far enough and he spits them out. :rotfl:

    Thanks for stopping by marlasinger.:j

youre doing very well on your mf journey.

They ate a sausage roll last Saturday that they found near the school. As the schools had been off 12 days don't know how long it had been there

Unfortunately I can't put the tablets down their throat, (they are 11 and 9, so they have had years of practice of being awkward with medication) I got some paste to put in Merlin (the oldest ones mouth) and as I tried to open his mouth he was doing an ELVIS, raising the side of his mouth as though he was going to bite??? He is a sheltie, and he has never bitten me or anyone else, I suppose he was just angry cos he is not very well. :(

Spent another £26 this morning, so that brings this weeks vet bills to almost £300. I would quite happily pay the same again to know that my two fur balls are ok!

  • Thanks Andrea. I know what you mean about willing to pay anything for the furballs. :)

I'm a bit hesitant about doing the tablet thing, but my dog is only a year old so hasn't clued up to it yet. :rotfl:I have to give him a paste as well (some pro-biotics), which I squirt in the side of his mouth and he hates it!

Hope yours get better soon. :)

  • Great News MarlaSinger,

Merlin has improved, last walk about 5pm last night, (neither of them will poop in the garden, that was how I trained them) and this morning Merlins was much improved!!!

Merlin nor Henry Barker like tablets or paste. Generally with small tablets, I can hide them in cheese. But I think they have clued up to that now! Maybe I will grate cheese very finely and surround the tablets in cheese.

Purchased 6 tins and a bag of dry food yesterday, at an exorbitant cost. The tins are definitely going down better. Got a bollocking of my mother, who used to breed poodles with my Nanna, she said dried food is only for the convenience of the owners, it's not best for the dogs??? Not sure where she plucked that little gem from, so it was taken with a pinch of salt!

Received an email from SSE this morning, I registered for mis-selling as I had signed up with them via phone, and left them to join npower in November 2011, am receiving a £121 refund from SSE.. Yay! That will go towards replenishing the money spent on vets bills this week.

I was very naughty, was out shopping with sis yesterday afternoon, and bought Nathan a Barbour Jacket. It was reduced to £75. Very extravagant but after the week I have had, I needed to! Plus when we take the dogs out together, we can be wearing matching coats! :-)

  • Another trip to the vets yesterday. Another £54 spent, but the doggies are much more lively! Yay! Fingers crossed by tomorrow they will be back to 100%. Campira Bacter was the infection, so antibiotics were in order.

Roll on payday next Tuesday. I have around £1 in the purse, have hammered the 1-2-3 account for vets bills to the tune of just short of £400. And I have also managed to use almost a full tank of diesel in a month!

Best friend got rushed into hospital last Tuesday with a blood clot, £3 a shot parking, and bf fell off the roof of a JCB whilst at work last Wednesday, he is in a hospital in an adjacent town and that's £3 a shot parking too!

Probably spent £30 on parking at both. As well as buying pyjamas for bf he didnt posess a pair. buying thorntons caramel squares for the patients (oo and me)

Only day I didn't go to either was yesterday, as I was mentally and physically drained!

Called Scottish and Southern Electricity and a cheque for my compensation for mis-selling is in the post!

May is the month to get my finances back on track! I can't be doing with another fortnight like the last one! When I bought Nathan the Barbour coat on Saturday, it was retail therapy, I only did it to cheer myself up. It didn't work! :-(

Hope everyone else is doing much better than me!

Sounds like you've had a really rough time with it lately! Hope things improve for you. :)

Can you claim off pet insurance for your vet bills?

    Hi MarlaSinger.

I only have Henry Barker insured. Merlin was under the PDSA when I was in the dismal financial nightmare. After I got back on track, Merlin was almost 11 and had pre-existing conditions so the premium (excluding anything arthritis or cyst related) was £102 per calendar month

I have been putting money away since August. So the funds are not exhausted yet! :rotfl:

Cheque from SSE arrived! £121.49 to go in the coffers! :j

Now to wait for the hmrc one which I calculate to be just under £6,000  that they have had since August 2012. I wonder whether I will get it back with interest?:rotfl::rotfl:

  • On the positive side, BF is out of hospital with the only adverse effect being that his left leg gives way.

Best friend was meant to get out yesterday, but they are keeping him in over the weekend.

Doggies still poorly, was talking to another dog owner, who said she knows of four other dogs that are suffering the same symptoms. She then asked if the dogs were walked down two particular roads (which they are, as my friend lives on one of them) she then said the local council were doing weedspraying down there (I assumed that when I saw the yellow grass) and that some weedspraying liquids are poisonous?

Doggies had toast for breakfast this morning!

Crikey, you've had a bad run of it!!!!!! Glad all are on the mend :T.
