  • Checked with Nationwide, the PPI that I had paid has been credited to the mortgage account, so that was why there was a HUGE drop in the balance! Yayyyyy!

Also checked on the life insurance which covers the mortgage and the overpayments now total over £7,000! One happy bunny, and two happy Shetland Sheepdogs here!

Waiting for HMRC to refund the tax overpayment, for the next big drop, but will keep plugging away at the little overpayments in the meantime.

Fantastic, nearly in the teens :T
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)

  • Great news!! Well done! x
2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.

Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
    Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(
  • Thank you GallyGirl and I want a baby for dropping by! I need to replace the guttering this month, so I don't think I will get to the teens for a few months yet! Under 20k will be a big milestone for me, lilyP I may have a virtual champagne toast then?

I checked my AmEx reward air miles. I have 3,352 I was considering using them towards a holiday (or for the flight for a holiday anyway).

We shall see whether the op's can be reduced for 2 months when the tax man gives me my refund? Or use some of the first direct regular saver when that matures?

Or I may just keep them, I assume that Nationwide won't take AmEx rewards as an overpayment? ;-(

  • Whoop whoop! Had a bit of a blond moment, got the lottery ticket out of my purse and it had ran out after 3rd April. ;( I was gutted as I had missed last nights draw. Then I found another 4 week ticket ending on 17th April (and I was even more gutted that I had wasted £4,) then I checked the numbers and last Wednesday I had two lots of four numbers. That's £114 to top up the 123 account this month! Delighted!

  • Hi All,

Not much to report this week, been very good spend wise, have £50 left in the purse from last week. Getting new guttering and fascias on the house tomorrow, the money is here (so it's not coming out of the savings) a £20+ topcashback payment and a £20+ quidco payment should be in the bank so that can go towards the savings in the 123 account.

Can anyone advise about the first direct regular saver???? The first payment went in on 31st August last year, the last payment will go in on 31st July 2013. Will the interest be added around the 30/31st August - which is a year from the first payment?

It's just the car and house insurance is due mid September. I was planning on paying for both of those then throwing the remainder at the overpayment (and setting up a new regular saver of course)

  • Ooh the joys of living close to two secondary schools and a sixth form college. My dog walker (I am not lazy or frivolous, just that I have great difficulty walking due to spinal problems) took my two dogs out at the weekend, they managed to find a sausage roll (as the brats had been off for Easter for two weeks, chances are that it was that old eek!)

They ate it, and had the runs, so had to make an emergency appointment at the vets on Monday! :-( Hefty spend!

Anyway, made £75 profit after selling an item in the local paper. So that's to go in the pot this month! ;-)

I need a free listing weekend on eBay, got quite a lot of items to go! Only little things, but not little enough to list starting at 99p, though.

Still not heard anything from HMRC? I understand their response time is 4-6 weeks? How on earth do they get away with that, they don't even acknowledge that they have received your correspondence!
