  • I've thanked everyone that's said they like/enjoy ironing - as there are so many of us! Not!!!

I find it's something that you can do when you've got things on your mind - smooth out the creases... smooth out your problems! A bit twee, I know, but it works for me!

PS - whoever said they are perfectly smart, but don't iron things... don't kid yourself - an unpressed blouse/shirt screams can't be bothered!

The only things I iron are shirts, trousers/jeans, and skirts.

    Life's too short!

(You could always send stuff to be done professionally if you're stuffed - we have a company in our town called 'The Smoothing Iron' which is great for fancy stuff.)

Just remember a story about ironing at home:

Once, when I first moved from home I went home for a family party.

Keen to get my party outfit looking nice after getting creased in the bag, I asked Mum for the iron.

She said "Your father broke it!" Knowing that my dad didn't ever iron I asked "How did he break it, he never uses it!"

    Mum replied "He ducked!"

I don't iron anything. If anyone else in the house needs something ironed they can do it themselves. I always hang and fold washing really carefully and never iron my own clothes. If something needs ironing I hang it in bathroom so that the shower helps creases to drop out.

My DH used to iron until kids were big enough to do their own.

  • I fold everything neatly and put it into the ironing pile. Then when family want somthing they just take it out and wear it as I only iron once a week, and that is only uniforms work clothes. And mine if i feel like it.

I find that there are very few of my family's clothes that need ironing apart from my husbands work shirts and the odd t shirt.

I think a lot of people iron just for the sake of it and it can sometimes do more harm than good.

A case in point is when my daughter stopped overnight at her friend's at school. When she came home from school the next day I thought she had someone else's sweatshirt on because there was a shiny 'V' on the back. It turned out it was her's but her friend's mum had washed and ironed her uniform!
Also some years later she was discussing ironing with her friends and it seemed I was about the only mum who didn't iron uniform. But when I asked her to compare them it seemed there was no difference apart from some of theirs had shiny 'V''s on the back of the sweatshirts.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I live in a flat so though I like things to have a blow in the fresh are, it is more awkward for me - hence "rariator ironing"....

Bedding, jeans, t-shirts - all neatly folded or and/or smoothed out whilst still damp and hung over rads - as good as if I'd spent hours slaving with iron & board.

The only exceptions - shirts/blouses if need it and (like an earlier poster) pillowcases.
