Painfully slow broadband....

Could you post your speeds on speedtest.net and pingtest.net?0

Oh it's getting complicated now! Too many ideas. Brain frazzle!
Think I'll stick with testing the sockets - it had better not be a faulty router as it is only a couple of weeks old!
Right Sky disconnected, phone disconnected, little box to make TV wireless disconnected......and socket no.2 (tested through a filter but no test socket as none available):
Type Interleave Path
Status SHOWTIME
Downstream Upstream
Data rate(Kbps) 263 969
Noise Margin 32 8
Output power(dBm) 12 13
Attenuation(dB) 18 8
Socket no.3 - tested through microfilter and internal test socket (though there are no wires attached to the faceplate when I remove it) and through the faceplate socket and a filter - NOTHING. NADA. ZILCH.
Socket No 4 - (tested through microfilter and faceplate socket)
Type Interleave Path
Status SHOWTIME
Downstream Upstream
Data rate(Kbps) 263 1017
Noise Margin 32 9
Output power(dBm) 0 10
Attenuation(dB) 16 7
And socket No.5 - (tested through a filter, though it doesn't normally have one, and through one socket in the faceplate as no internal socket)
Type Interleave Path
Status SHOWTIME
Downstream Upstream
Data rate(Kbps) 263 1003
Noise Margin 33 9
Output power(dBm) 256 0
Attenuation(dB) 16 7.
Any of that any use? I'll recheck No.3 and answer other posts...If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.0 -
ok, it looks like your downstream/upstream sync rates only are transposed in the stats, can you confirm this by (as suggested above) going to speedtest.net and running a couple of tests and posting the results.
If these speedtest results prove this point, then I'm with kb on this one, line issue has left you with a stupoidly-high snrm, or your line profile's stuck - do the quiet line (phone) test as posted above, report it as a voice fault (noisy line) first, and then go from there......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Re. line "profile" I think you can find out what it is (assuming the BT speedtest works) as follows :-
1. goto http://www.speedtester.bt.com/beta/
Click "yes" and "begin test"
2. Your speeds will be displayed (ok, you know these)
3. Click "Further Diagnostics"
Enter your phone number (NO OTHER INFO NEEDED
Click "Run Diagnostic Test"
4. Assuming the test runs ok, what is the number next to "IP Profile for your line is"If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -

I'm still not sure what if anything in the stats is transposed. If it was normal BT IPstream then I'd expect to see an upstream sync of 448 and neither sync rate is that so to me it looks like TT LLU and I didn't think LLU suffered from stuck profiles - that's a speciality of BT's overkill DLM routines.
The fact that the 263 sync apparently never varies is very strange as is the actual value.0 -
I saw something similar at a friends who had managed to connect two filters in series, somehow the broadband signal got through all be it at a snails pace. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I'm not clear if TT or BT are your line rental provider? No free lunch, and no free laptop0
-
I'm confused there too, It would appear that TT have LLU'd the exchange, but OP pays BT for line rental. However Talk Talk don't seem to acknowledge that the OP even has an account with them, I think?
Quote:"My broadband is with TalkTalk (used to be Tiscali and just never got round to changing) but line is BT. I can't register on the TalkTalk forums for assistance because they don't recognise the account number and phone number and say my account is no longer active. However, they like to continue taking my money."That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
The OP said they have a BT line in the first post. A BT line but LLU broadband is a common setup - probably more common than full LLU.
Sometimes it's still a BT line even though some other teleco does the line and call billing too.0 -
